I talked to a few 3D printing enthusiasts and they say the filament would be hollow due to how it's being pulled and not pushed, and it would have a lot of air pockets.

But when it comes time to print, it gets melted again and is pulled through the smaller .04 nozzle compressing the hollowed filament into a solid string no? Me personally like the idea of the asian guy on youtube who made the chopper for his homemade filament that turns the filament into pellets which he then feeds into a hopper to be pressed utilizing the drill bit through a heated pipe into a filament which he passes through a water bath and then through a digital dial indicator that he keeps an eye on to see if the filament diameter changes. The only thing that is questionable is heating the plastic to make the filament, and then heating it again when its pellets thus breaking down the atomic structure some more. So who knows how good the filament strength is after that. His prints looked decent though. I'm sure the strength was weakened but not enough to not be functional.

theres a video on youtube on how to turn plastic bottles into rope. it makes perfect strips from the bottles. then you cut and interlace the plastic and set it ontop of a hotplate to join them together into a longer strip then you feed it into this machine.
