Well if he'd have been good enough he'd have formed a new band and had success with them. But he got a million pounds or whatever from the anthology, made money from this event, got his own band now, is happily married after nearly 60 years with kids and grandkids. John was shot dead, George died prematurely of Cancer. He can walk down the street and can go about his business and not be get mobbed. So his not done too badly if you think.

John said they were always going to drop Pete because he was a lousy drummer but none of them gave any clue that they were going to drop him it was only when George Martin wasn't happy with what he was doing in the studio that they went with Ringo. It's hard to imagine The Beatles without Ringo he was totally in tune with the others and he brought his own thing to the party. Pete was more of a throwback to the 50's and what drummers of that time were doing. Ringo was a bit more progressive and the Beatles were all about progression so I can get the change but Pete's a nice guy and a good drummer.

In spite of Pete's drumming talent, or lack of it, I just can't help but feel bad for Pete. I mean, getting fired from the most iconic, legendary bands of all time in history just as that band was on the cusp of their international fame and fortune. It's not like he got fired from a band that would go on to have a few years of huge success only to fade into obscurity. He got fired from THE BEATLES, for crying out loud. A band that whose name, music, fame, and fandom that still lives on, even decades after it broke up. Pete eventually went on to a 20 year career as a civil servant, helping unemployed people find jobs. I know how many times he's said he's perfectly fine and happy with how things turned out for him. But still, I can't help but think there just had to be a few times when he'd be sitting in his civil service office, filling out paperwork, dealing with the daily drudgery of his 9-5 job, and think about The Beatles. How much more money they're pulling in than him (I would think they earned more in one day than Pete earned in a lot of years). How much fame they have/had. How they're living in the lap of luxury while he's struggling to pay the rent and put food on the table for his family. If I were in Pete's shoes back then, I know that's what I'd be thinking about.
@HonkyReduction-b2g

But The Beatles weren't famous at the time he got fired. Who knew what was around the corner? It just so happens that they got famous with Ringo in the band. With Pete Best in the band, they might never have become famous. Tiny details can alter the course of history. It's like that film Sliding Doors.
@lowbridge7070
20 күн бұрын
@HonkyReduction-b2g yeah, I know the Beatles weren't famous at the time he got fired. They were popular locally, but not yet REALLY famous, the international sensation they were soon to become. That's the thing. They fired him just when they were on the cusp of being famous. It bothered Pete at the time. He spent a couple of years struggling with them. And just when they were to grab "the golden apple" (as he put it), he's the one who gets shown the door. And then he watches from afar as they take off to fame and fortune only a couple months after his firing. He was so close to being a part of that.
@HonkyReduction-b2g
20 күн бұрын
@@lowbridge7070 I appreciate what you are saying and thanks for taking the time. You said that "they were on the cusp of being famous". But is that really true? As I've said, one tiny detail could alter the course of history. With Pete Best, they might never have made it big. One turn of events leads to another. Who knows. Maybe with Pete Best, they might've all died in car crash while driving to a gig. None of them knew they were going to be that big. To all of them, in 1962, they were just a beat group. None of them had a clue that a rock group could be that big. And it was all because of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Each one of them made up the DNA that is The Beatles that we know and love. Even with Ringo on drums, when Love Me Do was released in October 1962, it wasn't a hit. It got to No. 17. Pete Shotton, Colin Hanton and Eric Griffiths. Do these names ring a bell? I don't see any of them being disgruntled. But this guy Pete Best just wont' let it go after all these years. It's like as if he feels The Beatles owe him his career, which they don't because band members go in and out. Besides, he was a lousy drummer. And even now, there's videos of him playing and he hasn't improved. He should've taken drumming lessons if he really wanted to be a respected musician.
@lowbridge7070
19 күн бұрын
@HonkyReduction-b2g Very, very true they didn't know that they were going to be successful and famous, let alone on the high level they did, at the time of Pete's firing. And yeah, they probably wouldn't become famous if they had kept Pete. I don't buy Pete's theories as to why they fired him. He won't admit he wasn't that good of a drummer. His replacement, Ringo, was much better. Still, whether or not they (including Pete) knew they were going to become massively famous and successful, I still can't help but feel sorry for Pete. Imagine, you're a member of a band. You and the others really don't know whether or not you're all going to become successful. But after being a member of this band for a couple of years, they fire you and replace you. Then in only a couple of months after they fired you, that very band becomes a huge international sensation. I could be wrong, but if I recall correctly, Pete was so distraught over it, he actually attempted suicide. I just can't help but feel for Pete. Imagine having been in his shoes back then.
