Why do I only ever hear about the Hatch act during interviews with Buttigieg? Is everyone else just blowing it off or not sticking to it?

We're in such a toxic crybullying environment that these sorts of violations (or incredibly grave ones like the Logan act) are happening pretty freely, but any attempt to hold them accountable would be drowned in screeching of lawfare and victimization, so in many cases it would likely actually be an electoral boost to have the law be equally applied to them. As usual, it's demanded that the Democrats uphold the higher standards we should expect of American government, and no expectations the other way.

Ezra Klein once again reveals his lack of depth. He simply relishes the superiority his constant criticism gives him. For instance, if he'd look into reasons behind why policy is made he'd find that what's driving California's inability to keep up with housing demands is that it's the state with the biggest population already, as well as the most prosperous. It holds some of the world's most varied and celebrated natural places and is also very susceptible to the ravages of climate change. Since our normal weather patterns started changing drastically about twenty years ago, our water supplies are being seriously challenged, as well as electrical grid, etc. No new housing permits are granted unless developers can demonstrate how they'll provide sufficient water, etc. It's called Accepting Reality. Too many Americans ignore the handwriting on the wall and charge ahead based on fantasy and ignorance.

I 💯 Agree!! He is really a nice guy! I disagree with the other comment as I believe this current political climate has made more people even the ones that don’t want to do research about what is happening. I think this is true for young and older voters. I think we are getting back to facts not lies! I really hope he does end up running some day or maybe a Walz / Buttigieg ticket after Harris does her thing!! That would be nice!

Gosh, a long form political interview / conversation that isn't all about soundbites and gotchas, but seeks to understand the subject's positions more deeply. PB is an interesting and thoughtful man, and not just the Democrat's attack dog for dealing with the right. He's awesome at that, of course, but it was good to hear him relax and breathe in an interview.

Since the New York Times has been normalizing Republican weirdness, can Ezra Klein invite JD Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump to interview on his podcast the same way he interviewed Tim Walz and Pete Buttigieg?
@Liliarthan

They may have extended the invite already but the MAGAts declining coz there would be some tough questions (not sure how balanced, but it’s not an echo chamber). I imagine that Trump would cream in his pants (pls excuse my vulgarity) at getting attention from the NYT, even if he ultimately declines coz he knows he will look really bad for him. He’s been obsessed with the NYT even though he likes to pretend he isn’t by calling it “the failing NYT”.

My blood pressure goes down to the safe zone as soon as I hear Pete Buttigeg. He reminds me to think back and be grateful for some of the good things that have happened. If we would change the tax code, hammer away at the deficit, I would trust government far more. Feels to me like Harris is handing out game show gifts with her policies - it is just ad hoc and though I will vote for her, I do not buy it. We need solid tax policy - that helps the population as a whole. Fixing the deficit makes me know my kids and grandkids will be alright. I can’t stand Trump - but let’s stop mocking him and move on to talking about what it takes to run the country well.

You know I wasn't a big fan of Pete in the 2020 democratic primary, mostly because of his lack of experience in comparison to most of the people on that stage that being said I really liked this interview more then mosy other interviews I've seen of him, I think he's an effective communicator, I liked how he admitted that the democratic party was a bit naive with the russian reset, if he could possibly get foreign policy experience under the harris administration I could definitely see him as a presidential candidate come 2032.

Is that on him or you, I wonder? We get so few long-form political interviews these days, I very much enjoyed this conversation.
