Everybody knows Pete Rock is a genius but this beat was produced by his brother Grap Luva! Let's give credit for another genius as well!

Maximize3rdEyes absolute .. I remember hearing something about Wanderlust I think it was off the INI album .. or could be this beat .. basically Grap laid the beat .. then Pete came in and Dr Dre’d it .. swapping out drums and filters etc. Grap is severely under acknowledged though

Pete always seemed to have a knack for how to use that reverse gate effect on sounds to give it that nice dreamy, slow draw into the rhythm...one of the best ever!

Honestly, I just love Hip Hop and it's very nature. There is really nothing comparable for me at least to beautiful gems like these. On the surface Hip Hop seems to most as bragging and the occasional message against crime and education about the ghetto. But it's what most don't see that makes Hip Hop so incredibly unique. The inner city vibes or just walking in the cold NY streets on a dark morning heading to work or school. In the midst of a big city the music makes it feel the size of a planet. Often Hip Hop heads are some of the smartest people you may ever meet or incredibly abstract and deep thinkers. I really miss stuff like this. I am aware that there are some artists here and there who bring back the old school but it will never be the same.

You exactly wrote down what i was thinking bro.. even tho im from germany. Soul Hip Hop with Jazz is for me the best thing ever happened to music period. If people would really understand whats the meaning behind the message... That True Hip Hop thats what I represent G! Peace to all the real Hip Hop Heads!

I would put Pete over Premier. No knock on Premier. I can usually snuff out a Premier beat, they all sound somewhat the same but with Pete there's something about how he can take the smallest snippit of a song that no one would even think about sampling and make a masterpiece of it. And I agree with cbmuzik and the beats always have a dreamy affect to them

Premier has always been #1 for me until I had this same thought the other night. You know a Premo beat immediately. Pete Rock beats are not that way, and it may be a testament to his greatness.

***** Did you check out Apollo's sampling? Like for Heirloom on his album Clouds, he sampled this 1969 italian composer: Piero Poccioni - Camille 2000 (alt. take). No knock on Rock or Preem, their stuff is legendary. But Apollo is up there in my opinion.

Step up Always one step ahead coz I step up my game and I'm spitting my words so wild I go insane I'm stepping on stones to greatness that's the setup And I never let the fame make me fed up coz i know I'll be at the bot again but I'll always get up lyrically commiting another crime homicide to the beat my rap ability so wide got my enemies crying in defeat I'm not the greatest of all time but I'm one of the fucking elites I'm hard as a concrete I got my own style and flow 90's inspo and I'm still rocking til this day coz It'll will never be in a level that's obsolete and now rise up nod your heads to motherfucking rhythm of the melody and put your hands up and everybody listen to me coz rael is about to step it up Chorus And as time goes by fast i evolve Once was a little kid who knows nothing at all and Now i got the swag and I'm the baddest of them all I stay silent and make my rhymes schemes do all of the talk i make everyone get up I'm an alarm clock By the time that i let my verses go that's the time you'll feel the main shock too easy no pressure walking to success that's the prize i call that cakewalk proving that the name that i carved is authentic standing strong like initials in a tree bark aesthetic Slowly building my name so that when i die i leave a mark and that's poetic

most these rappers are the wackest on the mic they think this shit comes naturally, i practice every night just trying to be the greatest the beat takes me to a different place and i cant feel my face when the bass hits that was a drug bar, every single line is crack cant tell if im rhyming or just trying to bring the 90s back
