Public health officials are preparing to issue heatwave alerts as the mercury climbs to a sweltering 30C on Wednesday leaving Britain as hot as Gibraltar and Marbella. Festival-goers (left) have been enjoying a second day of warm weather on the Isle of Wight as they prepare for headliners Liam Gallagher and Depeche Mode. High pressure over the UK has brought with it hotter weather, with Wednesday predicted as the hottest day of the year so far. PHE's heatwave plan advises that during a heatwave the public should stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, avoid extreme physical exertion and eat cold foods such as salads or fruits with a high water content.
