I think we took it forgranted because we never dreamed great music would some day cease to be made. We thought 70s-like talent would continue to be born. It hasn't, unfortunately. It started going downhill in the 80s, getting worse with each passing decade. Beginning in 2000, you've gotta really dig through the HUGE pile of shit to find the occasional worthy song. I don't have the patience anymore. Just give me the 70s.

One thing about Peter that I really liked was his guitar playing. It wasnt the typical call and response blues rock licks that everybody else was doing at the time. He was melodic in his approach and took it to a new degree. It was great playing.

The Outlaws, Santana & Skynyrd opened for Frampton that day and two days later on the 4th played the same show. I was backstage at the show on the 4th, my best friends mom was the high bidder on backstage passes from the local PBS station. Got to talk to a few Skynyrd members on their way to the stage, Allen Collins & Billy Powell (friggin' awesome for a 17 year old). Later that summer saw Led Zeppelin with Rick Derringer and an unknown Judas Priest opened that show. Zeppelin may have turned in the worst performance of any band I ever saw there, didn't realize until years later that Robert Plant was all messed up over his young sons death and Bonzo Bonham was so shit face drunk he could barely make the stage and he got arrested after the show for brawling with the cops. That's so rock-n-roll! Journey didn't play A Day On The Green until 78'. 75'-78' were an epic time to be a teenager in the Bay Area and see all these great bands and just hang out with your friends and party. Made eight Day On The Greens and my favorite still was #3 in 75', Robin Trower, Frampton, Dave Mason, Fleetwood Mac & Gary Wright. Though this show was pretty damn hard to beat.

Ron Carter Yea, the Rhoades was an electric piano for those piano parts, but he did use a B3 at times. Not sure about this show. He definitely did use one at times though. He had so damn many stacked up here, its hard to tell What all he was using. I've seen him on other live shows where he wasnt using this many. May have been the Midnight Special, but wouldnt swear to it, but he was just using a B3 & a Fender Rhoades piano. Maybe a synthesizer. The Rhoades he's using here is white but the B3 he used was natural wood.

@stevesimms9622

Ron Carter Yea, the equipment has changed SO much since then. Its kind of a double edged sword though. Theres equipment now thats Much lighter & easier to use, because, I mean look at the Marshall's Peter is using. They dont even have master volumes. I still have a 1973 Marshall 50 head & you just cant Get a better sound, but I have to use a Marshall Power Brake to cut down the level to the speaker. But while newer equipment can be really convenient to use, when you put some of it up against the older stuff, it just doesnt have the same balls. I guess its a bit of a trade off between ease of using it live & the tone. Some guys use newer , more user friendly equipment live & the older stuff in the studio. Thats probably the smart thing to do, because when you're running through a huge PA at those volumes , it doesnt make NEARLY the difference as it does in the studio. In the 90's we were opening for a lot of major avts. My favorite was Joan Jett. And her PA had side fill monitors that were bigger than most damn Mains I'd played through up to that time! And at first I was using solid state Randall heads, but then went back to the old Marshalls, & out front, there just wasnt really that much difference.

Millions! Some of the lose had to do with his wife, or girlfriend, partying at home, or house. Even had some, if not all, of his guitars stolen.

After this concert, Frampton came down to San Diego where we saw him along with Yes!!! We were Soooo happy to see Frampton, that we partied in the hot sun. We were all burnt out, and as we were leaving, Yes was just starting. I looked back and remember the laser show starting. But we were there----that long, unforgettable summer.

16 Had just moved to California from New Jersey (definitely a step up). Day on the Green, Bill Graham came up with the best type of Teaser concerts multiple acts all in one day. Each band played for about 30 to 40 minutes max until the last headlining act. 1977 included Lynyrd Skynyrd. 1978-81 Black Sabbath, UFO, REO Speedwagon,Journey, Cheap Trick, Kansas, Ronnie Montrose, Sammy Hagar, 38 Special just to name a few. Those were the best shows I have ever seen to this day. Massive talent in one day. Combine with one massive audience. Usually about 30 to 35 thousand between the green and the stadium.

No way ! I was there and he had trouble following Synyrd who shredded.Outlaws before them and Santana first.This video has a lot edited out like when kept motioning for the crowd to cheer him instead of playing a lead,At one point I remember clearly him asking "DO you love me San Francisco ?"The answer was a loud no from the crowd.People were bailing over the BART bridge before he was done.Soon after he said i Rolling Stone magazine that he blew a west coast concert and that must have been it .All the obnoxious and disappointing parts were cut out of this video.

My First concert Beautiful california sunshine . The sweet smell of colombian gold blowing in the air. Southern Rock ruled the day The Outlaws and Lynyrd Skynyrd absolutely smoked that day along with the crowd who was half baked by the time that Santana performed and bored the raucous crowd. By The time Peter Frampton performed a lot of the crowd had left. Obviously the footage shows a different story.

+MrSmokeydog man that nails it. We used to get baked and just sit back and chill. No one messed with us. We policed ourselves. We just really enjoyed our lives then. Now shows are just "Herd them in, take as much money from their pockets as you can get, and herd them out". My first outdoor show we were allowed to bring in a cooler, but no glass bottles. minor searches here and there, but all paraphernalia was returned to the rightful owner. We drank whiskey from wine skins. Man I miss it so much.

I agree! Concerts are now outrageously expensive and the artists aren't nearly as accessible. Granted, Frampton wasn't following this until the 1980's and 90's when his core fans got older and he played smaller venues. I was just a kid when Peter Frampton exploded. I remember these clips and was always envious of my older siblings getting to go to these concerts. I campaigned heavily emailing him, his record label and the Bill Graham company to have this concert released on DVD in the 90's along with Journey's Live in Houston. Both concerts were HISTORIC! Frampton's documented the biggest selling live album in history. While the Journey concert was the very first live show aired on MTV. As we all remember, MTV was a way of life in the 80's and most of the 90's. I've been fortunate to meet many of my Rock favourite musicians. Him, Mark Knopfler, and Jeff Beck are the 3 guitar gods I'm still hoping to meet. His medical issues make it unlikely, but I hope he continues to produce music. RIP keyboardist Bob Mayo and his dear friend from Humble Pie Steve Marriott. 🙏

Just for trivia sake, I should add, the pretty blond they showed really close at the side of stage was Penny. Peter's then girlfriend for whom he wrote the song - "Penny For Your Thoughts" , who ironically ended up fleecing Peter for boatloads of money after he got famous after the live album in 1976.

yeah Soimos delivers, really like his finesse on the high-hat and solid backbeat. i also dig mayo's all white keys, especially the Fender Rhodes. it amazes me to see the crowd that Frampton has. it couldn't happen to a nicer guy in the biz. Too bad this couldn't be what happened when he was with Marriott in Humble Pie. Humble Pie could be the rock/blues side with Marriott leading and it could be the more folk/pop side with Frampton co-leading. Of course few bands survive with two (or more) total equals as The Beatles are the most obvious example. Frampton is a fantastic guitarist. He has a decent voice too no doubt, but he really is a top-shelf guitarist which doesn't get it's due simply because the type of music he tends to play. Glad he's still at it. Saw him a few years back. It's always special when you see one of the few artists who has had one album to sell in excess of 10-million copies. He is still well worth seeing. In fact I encourage anyone even if they don't think they'll like him since most always walk away with a new respect. I don't know who finds these videos of this concert and the one at the Capitol Centre...but, I'm sure glad they found them and post them. Boy, how I'd love to have the most pristine versions of these uncut and on digital files. I collect concerts if they're pro-shot and it's always a treat to find something you didn't know existed. This is great stuff...thanks.

I went to this concert with my husband and my sister when we were in our twenties. It was her first rock concert..actually her only rock concert she says! She said it was one of the highlights of her life! It was great to find this on you tube and remember such a great and wonderful day of music on the green. What a fantastic line up with Lynyrd Skynyrd & Santana too. I sent the link to "Do you Feel Like I Do" to my sister yesterday, and she loved it. She calls him Mr. Peter "Do ya love me?" Frampton. Unfortunately, this "full concert" is missing the part where he gets up on the white piano and screams to his adoring fans, "Do ya love me? Do ya love me?" Does anyone else remember that?
