I finally ordered this filter... reluctantly. I like many others wish there wasn't some fancy brand name version of this filter. I sat on the idea of buying it for months because of it being "trendy", but when it comes down to it, this filter is fantastic! The only other option I found that was up to par was B+W's Variable ND. I know you can just stop down the lens, and I know that people are obsessed with Bokeh these days, but for me, I truly like the cinematic and dreamy look bokeh gives, so I like to use it my videos.

With all due respect, I think you’re completely wrong on the marketing. The reason why people are attacking these "reviews" is justified : 1 - Not an actual technical review of the product but a commercial. 2 - It did not show the filter capabilities with a wide angle, low apertute lens like 16-35 gm for example. 3- it did not compare this VND filter to any other VND in the market for that price or less. 4 - it did not say that it is overpriced.

Why would people advertising a certain product.... mention other alternatives in the review? In response to all these ' Its too expensive' comments, it is very expensive, yes. However, I have experience testing a large amount of filters ( Tiffen, Hoya etc) and after owning a Quartzline NDPL64 I can honestly say the build quality and overall standard that PolarPro have set in their filters is insane, I know their filters are on the pricey side but you are paying for the best product that the market has to offer... I will be definitely picking at least one of these variable ND filters up as I know I can trust PolarPro's filters to be reliable and last for many years (and take a beating!), which is also supported by the company's lifetime guarantee.

You've worked hard, created great content and got the opportunity to give an opinion on what looks like an amazing product. Not many people would say no to these kinds of opportunities so I'm not sure where the hate in the comments is coming from. I like to think that if there was a negative point to this product you would point it out but other than the price (and maybe the lovely but over the top packaging) there doesn't appear to be anything bad to say about it. I wonder why all of these youtubers are acting like they have never used a variable ND before until this one. They are also acting as if the crossover vignette issue with other filters make them unusable when it only is present for the tiniest amount of the filter rotation. Even enduring that minor "issue" would be worth not having to buy and carry 2 separate ND filters. Just my opinion if these way outperform optically than I guess that would be OK.

I rarely comment on posts but Im seeing many comments about this being just a commercial for Peter McKinnon, if Sidney truly believes in this product which he does then this isn't a commercial its about an artist who is passionate about a product that he has. Doing commercials on products that you dont believe in will soon destroy a channel and all that persons credibility. You dont have to buy the ND filter if you think its overpriced or you dont like Peter McKinnon you have many choices to chose from. Just because Peter McKinnons name is on the filter doesnt mean he didnt have some input into it. Peter has contributed to the industry and to the many people who watch his channel like many other creators have also done, yes he is very good at marketing but honestly if anyone of us had a chance to do the same we would, being clever at marketing does not mean you dont believe in the products that you are recommending. I would prefer to buy a product that has had some input by the artist with their names on it than by a company that just releases what they think is right, paying the extra money would be worth it. Peter McKinnon is having a lot of success lately and yes it is a business however he doesnt deserve the Tall Poppy Syndrome knocking that he appears to be receiving. Of course any genuine comments should be addressed regarding any new product release. Just my thoughts. :)

From all the haters in the comments, what's so wrong about a creator being sponsored by a huge brand like Polar Pro to introduce and give their input on a product? Pretty sure if any of you were given the opportunity you would take it also because I know I would. Polar Pro has some of the best filters on the market. As far as price goes, you get what you pay for with filters. If you don't create professional content weekly or make enough money to invest in better equipment then yeah this filter is not going to be worth $250 to you. So if you'd rather shoot with a cheaper Tiffen VND that casts color and cross patterns with infinite turn then knock yourself out. Don't bash the creator for taking great opportunities and succeeding on this platform. This is a solid video Sid, of course there are hundreds of others but you show the audience exactly how filters work and how important they are to videographers. I give it a thumbs up.

Never have I seen such a backlash on a review. At the end of the day, you are the judge if u want to buy this or not. Yes this is way overpriced and there are better options out there, personally, I would never buy a filter for $250, that's ridiculous. To me, this is just people working their ass off trying to help each other out. As a new youtuber, I know how hard it is just to get a sub. Sydney already said that he got these sent to him, that should tell you something already. Would I say good things if I got a premium filter I would never pay for with my own money for free? Hell yeah, cuz this thing, as far as I can see, looks friggin amazing. Maybe to receieve a bit less hate, mention that it is in fact pricey to keep it honest..I know it's hard to say without stepping on Peter's toes but common $250usd for a filter, that's like half a camera. Keep up the great work, love all your inspiration and great review none the less.

Tiffen makes a good variable ND so does Hoya sold at less than half the price point. So unless this filter has something extra-ordinary compared to those, why would we buy it. It is nice packaging but it really does not matter as what we use it the filter only. I think it is way overpriced.

Great video as always! A variable ND is definitely on my radar and this one looks amazing! I think the price point really is worth it and minimal vignetting. I'm a videographer that dabbles in photography, would you recommend the 2-5 or the 6-9?

So question guys - everyone is knocking the filter for the price - but I'm wondering if this ND filter really addresses the common problems that Sidney brought up - specifically the lens cap on the filter, and not having any vignetting? Also considering the fact that it comes with 1 hard case * 1 soft case, etc. Is this still overpriced? I understand a bit of mark up because of peters name but yeah.... Also I thought vignetting was a nasty issue with Variable ND filters?
@555soul5
5 жыл бұрын
He needs to go wider than a 24 to see vignetting. He didn't...soooo. Vignetting is terrible on wide lenses like 16mm when you are ND'd down too much. It's the beginning of the X pattern, worse on wider lenses. Hard stops help, but that wide are they enough to avoid a vignette.

@@hollywood1211 I really wish ONE of these guys did a proper review on the product. It would feel far less coordinated and much more authentic. We all know what a VND does, Peter himself did 2 videos on it, not including the one he did today, 3 total. I'm all for these guys getting product, but if they don't use it enough to give us actual feedback, how it is of value for us to watch them? Sincerely, how does it benefit his subscribers base? Not just Sid, I like this guy, but lets call a spade a spade. It's a pretty coordinated effort today with these filters. I got an email notification as well, I unsubscribed from them.

The PolarPro filters are great and probably the best filter's in the world, however they have a few serious flaws in their design. One is you can not mount or use lens hoods with them on your lens. Two is you can not attach or use a front lens cap with them and they are not thin enough for wide angle lenses and obviously therefor cause vignetting. If you can live with constantly taking them on and off or not using a front cap or hood...they are great!

Any insights or thoughts as to why they used aluminum instead of brass like their other filters?
@SidneyDiongzon
5 жыл бұрын
Really good question! I would think it’s to cut down on weight. It’s a really light filter, and I feel like I can leave it on my lens all the time. That cap makes a world a difference too!
@justonbrazda3846

@@SidneyDiongzon I've heard a couple people say they did it for weight. The things aren't heavy anyways. It wouldn't be any heavier than one fo the ND/PL filters that are made out of brass.
