I don't recall where I remember this from, but since being a kid in the 80s I've always thought the pirates were the lost boys who grew up but got away from pan before he offed them, and that hook was once pans best friend until he grew up.... Hence the rivalry. Then as I hit my late teens I thought maybe pan and hook were one and the same, like how he lost his shadow... Pan separated his maturity in order to stay a child forever, with his adult self being hook. The ticking of the clock a reminder that TIME separates the boy from the man, and it was the boy who took his hand, the severing of the youth from the mature.

The ticking clock in the hungry crocodile also hints that time is coming for all of us. "Someday the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king." Peter is still young, so he doesn't need to worry about it. He isn't going to die anytime soon. Yet for Captain Hook, time has already gotten a taste of him, and is coming for him soon.

Maybe it is just because the Hook movie heavily implies this but I had always assumed the Lost Boys were exactly that, lost. Much like Peter in the flashback they got seperated from their families or were orphans left all alone and got found by a fairy like Tinkerbell who brought them home almost like a pet. I always saw TINKERBELL as the source of the kids who ended up there with Peter being the leader because he was her favorite, and SHE was really the one "in charge" (but being a fairy was very fickle and hands off). Similarly the pirates either had a fairy on their side or had found a natural way to end up there from the real world, since there was a city there I had always assumed the pirates could freely go back and forth for supplies and food and essentially used Neverland as a hideout and place to safely rest where no authorities could possibly find them. I figured this was also why they were all older adults, as they spent much of their time in the real world where they age normally. Similarly this would also be how the Native Americans got there, a lost tribe that wandered into some fairy portal or something and got trapped there and settled in. I guess I never saw Peter as evil or as any sort of mastermind, he just seems like a mostly average dumb kid with a bit of a mean streak and a big ego since he is the boss of his little clique of friends. Tinkerbell on the other hand though, in the words of Nibbler "nothing acts THAT cute without an ulterior motive"... She is the only being we know for sure has both the means and the motive to bring people there (loneliness, boredom, pity, etc..) and as a non-human fairy might have even been the entity that made Neverland in the first place ACTING all small and weak and defenseless, while she slowly and subtly feeds off of the souls and memories of everyone living there (hence why everyone seems to start slowly forgetting the real world and their old lives from staying there too long)...

I've read that the "lost boys" were children who were abandonded and died. They were orphans or street urchins. J.M. Barrie who wrote the books had a brother who died as a child. This also explains why the children lived in a magical realm and never grew older. As memories of the lost boys faded from the minds of those in the real world, then Pan would murder them. This is reinforced by the name Peter Pan, just look up what a Pan was. It is a much simplier and straight forward explaination than AntiLogic is presenting.

James Barrie had a brother named David who died right before his 14th birthday. David was their mother's favorite, so sometimes when their mother was grieving over her son's death, James would dress up in David's clothes to try to snap her out of it. James would later write the story of 'the boy who wouldn't grow up'.

Peter Pan, plays homage to the elder god pan, a mischievous part goat keeper of the underworld maze, luring children in. There is alot of baphomet symbolism in the book and it's not hard to see that love for innocence and kids is slightly disturbing, plus the author had a fascination with a young boy in a park quite often on a near daily basis, that's creepy as fuck, so he based his boy over his love for this boy

But the thing is Pan is a gentle spirit, is here to help and protect the famers. When christiannity took over in Europe they replaced a lot of believes by their own. I Have Know this since I was a Kid. Pan Is not a boy but a full grown man. Even in the Cartoon look at him compared to the rest of the Kids. Tinker bell is either Aphrodite, Minerva, Bast take your pick. Peter Pan is Baccus, Dionysus, or... PAN ( R. Kelly vibes). Hook is not the villian, he knows who Pan is so, as with most things in Hollywood or writers from the 16th century do is Make the Good guy bad and the bad guy good. And your synopsis on Sinster and Ring movies with the Canaanite and Sumerian gods is correct. Most would overlook the connections but it's the same story told over again

Peter Pan is an amalgamation of the mythological character Pan and the author’s older brother, David, who died in an ice-skating accident the day before his 14th birthday, and would “never grow up”. As usual, the Disney story deviates from the source material quite a bit. But in this case, the Disney film is truly about Wendy deciding whether or not she is ready to grow up. In the first act, Wendy is telling her brothers about Pan, whom she has never met. Presumably, the stories were told to her by her mother, who also visited neverland as a child. Pan lurks around the city and at some point, lost his shadow to Wendy’s dog. Wendy found it, and knowing the stories about Pan, thought it was his and held it captive so he would return. Well, Wendy’s mother and father are getting ready for a holiday party and Dad is a jerk. He’s angry all the time, punishes the dog for nothing, and tells Wendy that she’s been a child long enough and that tomorrow, she will move out of the nursery because she’s growing up. This is the act that triggers Peter’s appearance. He knows when a child has to decide whether to grow up and arrives to test them. Most children would love the opportunity to go on one last childhood adventure so they take him up on it. However, after they arrive, they encounter one death-trap after another. Pirates fire cannonballs at them, lost-boys try to shoot them with projectiles, mermaids try to drown them, Indians threaten their lives for a kidnapping they didn’t commit, and Hook tries to blow them up. The whole time, Wendy starts off having fun but then get increasingly exasperated as these childish games become less fun. By the end, she has decided that she no longer wishes to be a child and is ready to grow up. She passed the test. Upon her return to the world, she tells her parents about her adventure and tells them that she’s ready to grow up. They don’t believe her until they see the ship flying through the air and comment that they’ve seen the ship before, when they were very young. They did the same thing and passed the test too. Now, the lost boys are all children who failed the test and chose to stay boys forever. If they do ever grow up, then they are “banished” according to Peter. Which could either mean that they’re sent back to the real world, become pirates, or are killed. We don’t know for sure. Now Pan and Neverland are the most interesting part to me. Pan cannot form new permanent memories. That’s why he likes to go to the windows of children and listen to their stories about him. Because he forgets and is hearing them for the first time from others. The reason that this is important is because you cannot stay a boy forever if you learn and grow. Our experiences teach us about the mistakes we make, and if we remember them, then it’s impossible to stay naïve. And the reason that no one leaves is because every time that Pan leaves Neverland, it returns to its original state. The pirates can’t leave because they are reset every couple of days. We know this because Wendy’s parents say they’ve both seen the ship before when they went on their adventures… If Pan has routed the pirates and taken their ship, then why are they still on the ship? Because when Pan returns, they return to their original state. The test is always the same. Kid has to decide if they want to grow up, Pan takes them to Neverland, they have to deal with a number of problems, they have to decide whether or not to stay, and if they decide to leave, then Pan takes the ship and returns them home in it, resetting the day. Also, Hook is a representation of the bad part of being an adult. In the Disney film, he is voiced by the same actor as the father and has a similar demeanor. Because they are the same person. Thanks for reading!
