I feel like I've learned a lot by following Thiel on google alerts for almost two years now. The way his massive reach extends into everyday news continually blows me away over and over; every week there are mainstream stories with direct lines to Thiel. One day 5 out of 10 major news headline stories could directly be traced to Thiel.

Great point about the equality or balancing opportunities outside of mega cities. It requires more cultural openness and willingness from citizens of those cities to be apart of a tech world. GVTs & business leaders must put their efforts to develop peripheral areas. It'll take time to close the gap but it will be worth it.

Peter Thiel point out the same fact that Sam Harris like to point out about our brain. Sam Harris: We know a lot about the periphery, and little or non about the essence of how own brain works. We create lots of minor innovation in our society - like air-ship designer at about 1920 - and create no essential changes to switch the way how we keep operational those societies after we realize how minor are the effects of those Innovations. We did not started to experiment with the design of airplanes, we as global society, we still try to build better airships, which is not really new at all.

Not entirely fair for Peter to say governments don't work, giving the Golden Gate bridge construction versus the modern access road, which took longer and cost more. The reality is that the world today is FAR more complicated than it was in 1930 - no fiber optic lines, BART, or pesky environmental laws. Not to mention the fact that the traffic levels are far higher. Sure, government doesn't work well, but it's fighting problems that are a lot tougher, too.

"These political labels are always more misleading than helpful but certainly what I would say in terms of Western Civilization since the enlightenment, it was a civilization in which every generation was better off than the generation that was before. That has been the way our societies have worked for at least 250 years and maybe longer. There is a certain way you can organize a society if it's progressing, if its growing, if the economy is growing 2, 3, 4 percent a year, you can solve a lot of problems; that's the way our parliamentary democracies work. The way they work is we have a growing pie and everybody agrees to divide up the growing pie; if the pie no longer grows then I can only gain something by taking something from you; it becomes this sort of zero sum game, it becomes more of a racket and then our whole system does not work very well. Our system only works with growth." -Thiel

Interesting people don't want to live longer with a better life because they think it is environmentally unsound. Yet they'll breed like rabbits without hesitation. And then there's Peter Thiel's belief we've been living another 2.5 years longer every 10 years for the last 150 years or so. What about all those Greek philosophers? They all seemed to live into their 80s. Maybe the rest of the Greek society died off earlier because they were fighting with lions or in wars so the average age was 40. If anything our lives have been getting shorter though and Thiel doesn't address this. Well, apparently only in America. Anyways, if people were actually interested in the environment they'd welcome long good lives that develop the wisdom to be able to steward the world. That are not obsessed with breeding but with higher aspirations. That don't introduce more mouths to feed that in general are a huge waste. Sure there are a lot of older people who haven't got a clue. There are a few though that do have it together and have a wealth of wisdom to draw upon. Those are golden.
