They’re dope trucks for sure. I just don’t see it as a wise business decision in a lot of cases The wrong truck can literally break you out here

It takes a few days to get used to the hood, but it’s not that bad. And to answer your question about the fuel switch. It’s a classic thing to see how much fuel is in each tank, on hood trucks they don’t pull fuel equally
@GoldPhoenix

My tanks don’t burn evenly. I’ve seen a few trucks with multiple fuel gauges but never a switch 🤔 interesting

Great video as always. We’re close to the same age so I’m in the same viewpoint as you however, I will say that it’s a beautiful truck. I think it’s more so for the solo driver or a husband/wife situation where they don’t mind the VERY intimate space. It’s got a cozy feel to it, almost like what I’d imagine cottage to feel like as apposed to the apartment-esque feeling I get in my truck. I think that if I was older and had kids who were out of the house I could rock with something like this full time but since I’m still young it’s not as appealing.
@GoldPhoenix
Жыл бұрын
That’s one way to look at it for sure. It’s a lovely truck and I’d imagine pretty fun/challenging to drive BUT the space I’m use to compared to that isn’t appealing. Just doesn’t seem practical but I must be missing something if people like them so much

Great take. I have a 06 389. Now I Spent the majority in a newer style model. From Freightliner Cas to the 860 Volvo. Seeing the Pros and Con from a newer to older. I now prefer older. Yes need would probably be more comfortable and better MPGs. But when it comes to maintaining it over. Older is better. Easier to work on and not too many sensors to deal with. Not to mention no DEF.
@GoldPhoenix
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I recently had an issue where my truck stopped burning DEF all together. Turned out to be a knock sensor and even though I replaced it the check engine light periodically comes on for it 🤦🏾♂️ if I knew how to work on a truck myself I’d probably go older, but since I lease mine of course new

Each generation brings something new to the table, you are comfortable with electronics so more power to you. The classic Peterbilt is simply a ‘give me my load and let me roam’ type of unit. The sound of the engine, the feel of the somewhat pure mechanical nature of the truck, gives some drivers that peace of mind they need out there on these crazy streets. Majority of Pete drivers you will find are older and definitely confident.

Definitely respect them for even being able to deal with it. Can’t see NOTHING over that hood 😂 personal choice I guess though I prefer livability but I guess it’s all subjective

Well for one is ride quality. The smoothness of the ride with the steers further away from you in addition to the longer wheelbase is something the has to be experienced to fully understand just know that it’s awesome. Also these trucks last FOREVER! You buy one of these brand new it’s can basically last your whole career. The build quality is just made of tougher stuff altogether. When it comes to lights and chrome it’s second to none. The way you can deck these things out just can’t be done with the aerodynamic trucks. Also specifically with the 389 you can still get the same MX 13 all digital dash and automatic trans that you can with the other trucks giving you the best of both worlds. More can be said but that’s the jist of it
@GoldPhoenix

I definitely have a lot of respect for these kinds of trucks. I just find them unpractical for general freight. I think if you’re specialized in any capacity it’s a completely different story

At the end of the day, your not nearly as tired because you’re not sitting on top of your steer tires. Give it a try and you’ll be done with those flying plastics.

Fuel economy bro. Those are super cool. Especially the tall Texan sleeper. But they are as aerodynamic as a shoe box. I think it’s thousands more of annual fuel Cost

For some reason lots of Long Nose equipment up here in Canada. Probably for the fact there isn’t to many mega carriers here & limited reefer runs . Mostly flatbed loads . Maybe those older trucks are easier & cheaper to fix . With long service life?

I was wanting to see what he thought of when he said “what’s the big deal of a long hood truck, my truck I’m getting 9mpg’s” I knew off top. Square hood truckers are a different type of truck driver. Then he really lost me with the “automatic restriction”. 😂😂

But if cost of operation over time is much higher than an aero truck then that “value” is negligible. If it was a real monetary benefit then more mega carriers would have them

I’m going to be honest with you what draws me to those kinds of trucks is just that’s what I grew up around and I think they look the best and you can put big 8” straight pipe stacks on them and they sound super good. But if I was to put looks aside and buy a truck just for fuel mileage and comfortability and easy of finding shops and stuff I would buy a new cascadia with a Detroit in it. But they aren’t as cool so Peterbilt it is
@GoldPhoenix
Жыл бұрын
Oh nah they can be quite beautiful trucks tbh I don’t disagree, but when it comes down to the bottom line most of the time the cost doesn’t make sense to me. But that aside it’s definitely a much smaller space to live in 😂
@Its_Melv
Жыл бұрын
@@GoldPhoenix yea they are definitely a lot more to buy and operate with a lot less living space the only true benefit to them with esthetics aside are they hold their value a lot better than aerodynamic trucks and they tend to ride better due to the longer wheelbase especially if you get the air ride front end. But everywhere else the aerodynamic trucks like the cascadia are better.
