Thanks so much for this. To anybody else, don't buy anything PetPorte - mine failed for want of a 0.01p part, but they won't sell you spares - you have to spend £90 on a new door every time.

I had the exact same problem and have managed to fix mine, I think its the green actuator magnet losing its magnetic energy. I ended up swapping the red and green actuators over and that fixed (moved) the problem. We don't use the lock-in feature. If you swap the entire wiring loom, prising out the connector inserts then you will also need to reverse the white and blue pins.

Dear electronbox, thanks for the video, very helpful ! Could you show/tell me how the position of the sensor under the green lock should be? It seems to block the movement of the lock...

To save on wiring an LED with USB cable, then turning the LED on and off, may I suggest using the "lock in" feature. At night, hold the red button down for 5 seconds, the red LED will flash, cat is locked in (it is not locked out, it can still re-enter your house). In the morning, hold the red button down for 5 seconds, LED stops flashing and cat flap works as normal. Good video none the less.

Agreed, but the benefit of using a time switch with an LED is that the 'lock in' time and duration can be controlled automatically.

@@electronbox But of course you have to adjust the timer throughout the year as the nights get longer and shorter, as with other flaps that have a built-in timer. Best of all would be a way of making the light sensor work properly. Should it be extended so that it sits fully outside the tunnel and isn't affected by light coming through from inside, for instance? Perhaps it's where it is to shield it from an outside light, or the moon? Have you got any suggestions? (Really good video, by the way!)

Very useful video. Thanks for sharing. Where did you get the chip from? I wanted to get one too so as you say, you don't need to wave the cat around to test it!.

Was hoping to make the locking mechanism more silent, but it seems to be the solenoids that are super loud. Thank you for the video and explanation.

The solenoids are polarised. wire one way they pull in, wire up the other and they push out. Our is having similar problems with the green 'in' lock. It'll work for a bit and then not. Cats not too happy about spending the night outside.

Hi thanks for your video. I need to ask you for some advice on how I can modify the cat flap to operate both solenoids in parallel please as I have an issue with a very crafty feral cat who found a way to get in by poking the flap from the top edge so it swings outwards and lets himself in. It’s an issue we are facing daily at night. I was thinking of wiring both solenoids in parallel but placing a dpdt switch so I can reverse the operation if I need to use the catflap as originally intended. Can the electronics take the extra current to activate both solenoids please? Thanks for your help.

electronbox Thanks for your reply. The problem of having the cat flap locked on the outside at certain times would mean that my own cats would not have the freedom to go out whenever the need to. I was wondering if the IC that controls the solenoids can drive both solenoids at once. I don’t know which IC is responsible of driving the solenoids, whether the L293 or LM324. I found no specifications such as current draw for these solenoids so I have to scope around and measure a pulse voltage and work out the current and add them up I guess, but it would help to know which IC is in charge please. I guess there’s no schematic one could download? Thanks

Great idea to buy a spare chip for a fiver to check sensor! I think my cats chip has moved from shoulders as sensor not beeping so a test chip will help me test it . Cats are not good volunteers 😂

I know this is an old video, but I lost the power supply for my petdoor - trying to find the specs and even the manufacturer support seems to be giving me bad info. You would not by any chance have the adaptor specs handy to post would you??? Long shot I know. Thnx.

Hi, I believe the requirement is 12V DC @ 1.2 Watts, so almost any generic 12V psu will work, just ensure positive is centre pin.

I have a related, but opposite, problem - just cleaned it as a precaution but still not right. It actuates perfectly, but does not return snappily and, when in place, sometimes goes off again, then comes on, then goes off again and stays there. It admitted a semi-feral from next door yesterday, and because it was in curfew mode, she couldn't get out. She woke me up with her meowing, and I managed to get her out. I suspect the solenoid is not going to "lock" position as quickly as it should on occasions. Any advice on particular areas to clean or parts to adjust?

I've switched to SureFlap now, both the flaps and feeders. They are a superior quality product imo.

It's a poorly made design. Angry cats and raccoons will find a way to bypass it by just banging with their heads or their paws. The plastic door is quite easy to bend and once it goes past the small locks on the bottom it will open without worry.

@@electronbox May I ask you which model you bought ? I am considering buying a SureFlap but I found a video of cat being able to open it (by pushing hard on the door). It's on a model with the two locks on the bottom.
