We have this "fence" for our Aussie, it took a couple days for her to learn the area, she now doesn't cross the boundaries even when not wearing her collar. Was plug and play, minimal training, and inexpensive.

I bought one of these systems in 2001 (that's not a mis-type) and have used it in 5 homes everyday and other than replacing the collar battery no anything ever needed. Maybe I got lucky or whatever, but it's a true story. I've used it on 2 dogs through their lives and am on the third. After showing them the boundary all three dogs got it immediately after 1-2 corrections and would approach to the beep and knew exactly where he boundaries were without further training. We even used it on trailer pads when we were RVing. After they adjusted to boundary I turned the correction down to 1, but kept that incase another dog or some really tempting stimulus tested their resolve. Don't forget to take it off when you leave in the car. So I'm 99% satisfied. I wish it had a little more distance, but a half acre works well. The other grip is a second collar costing almost as much as a whole new system is ridiculous. I hope that helps you in your decision.

I have used this same one for probably 4 years or so. I watched the video for a refresh because my dog got out once again. Adult Catahoula with plenty of room to run. But she constantly tests the boundary and waits for the day the battery is dead and then makes the escape for a few hours. So if you have a stubborn dog, I strongly recommend you set a battery changing schedule. Learn from my repeated mistakes 😂.

I took my recomendation request away as soon as I saw you testing the collar on yourself. The fact that you are so against the shock part which isn't bad and some animals are stubborn to that point and you looking like you were about to cry before it even shocked you means look for opinion elsewhere

I have a cat that would love to be outdoors as well, would you recommend using this system for cats? obviously, I would have to adjust it to fit a smaller neck but has anyone tried it?

Hi! I believe PetSafe offers a dedicated in-ground fence for cats. Unfortunately, I have not tried it yet.

I have a 12 acre property (almost 3000 feet around the perimeter) and three dogs. What fence do you recommend for that many acres?

Sounds like a great application for the SpotOn fence.

We have some mature trees in our yard, one in particular has a very large trunk. How is the signal affected by these types of objects?
@ThePamperedPup

That could potentially cause interference issues. If the collar loses signal from the base station, it will issue a correction.

It's a shock collar okay first 24 months it gives a beeping sound before it shocks the dog I have two perimeter boxes they are located outside away from each other one in the front yard one the backyards the front one has two dogs on it the back on has two other dogs on it and they cannot go across to get into the backyard to the front yard or the front yard or the backyard if you get my drift

If you want to create the barriers on your property, the in-ground systems would probably work. Check out the Extreme dog fence. If it’s not on your property, probably would need a GPS fence.

I have a 10lb Yorkie who goes in and out of the house through a doggy door. We live on 3 acres and don’t have a fence. Is this the best option? Or is their a GPS collar that you would recommend?
@ThePamperedPup

Hm, that’s a small pup. PetSafe says this will fit dogs 5 pounds and up. It doesn’t look like the GPS systems go that small. The PetSafe would probably be the best bet.

What if you just want to do a straight line at the end of the driveway?
@ThePamperedPup
Жыл бұрын
A wired system can do straight lines and is relatively affordable. I’m guessing you wouldn’t be able to bury the wire though if the driveway is paved. The other option is GPS fences, although they are more expensive

@ThePamperedPup

Can’t say for sure, a lot of it comes down to training. Also check the weight of your cat against the minimum weight recommended for the invisible fence.

We live on a farm; will an electric fence for cattle interfere with this collar?
@ThePamperedPup
6 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, there is the possibility of making a “hole” in the invisible fence if they are set up so that the boundaries overlap, or are close to overlapping. This is typically with an in-ground dog fence though that also communicates with a collar, not a traditional above-ground electric fence that shocks when you touch it.

Looking for a wireless GPS fence and collar, but my yard is only about .3 acres. I don't like the idea of shocking my dog, especially since I don't think it's necessary. I believe a vibration would be enough to condition him to not pass the boundary. Have you tried testing the SpotOn unit in a yard less than .5 acre? I'm curious how accurate the boundary was managed.
@ThePamperedPup
Жыл бұрын
We have, the drift is more noticeable but we were still able to get distinct alerts, warnings, and corrections. Wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending for yards less than 1/3 acre though. The PetSafe can be used in vibration only mode, I believe.
@TheBowman1286

A vibration will not stop a dog, maybe u can train them and it work most of the time. But if for some reason they want to cross that line. A vibration will not stop them at all

This tech doesn’t use GPS correct? Seems like the spot on would be easier to set up and more flexible. Is that correct?
@ThePamperedPup
Жыл бұрын
Yes indeed, this system does not have GPS. It has its limitations, but it’s a reasonably reliable option for the price. SpotOn is as easy as it gets.
