Excellent demo once again, Shawn - I can hear what the pedal does even through youtube compression. I really like how pettyjohn pedals have this open sounding quality to them (probably the high headroom and primo components) and how that lets me choose what comes out of the amp... so many ways I can use a pedal, like the crush compressor, which can also double as a boost or an eq (with or without compression thrown in with the blend). Brilliant designs!

Beautiful composition, and great playing! Simply masterful... I love the Pettyjohn stuff. I have the Chime, and it sounds so 'full-range', very hi-fi. Most pedals by comparison really suppress certain frequencies, and boost others. The Chime seems to effect the entire spectrum, in a very musical way. I am sure on your demo tone here that your base tone was already killer, but the way the Filter top it off is the icing on the cake!

Hi Shawn, Im becoming such a big fan of your playing, its ridiculous! Also, i found pettyjohn through you and I have to say they are the best pedals I have ever tried. You should definitely consider doing youtube videos of home recording and walkthroughs of how you get those precious sounds through what seems a simple setup. Im sure your following would enjoy this very much! Like always, keep it comin! Cheers!

Great demo. I bought one of these and it works very well. I'm able to dial in HB's, P-90's, & SC's just the way I want them. You have to experiment with the switches & knobs to find the best tone, but it's definitely in there. I wrote down the settings for each guitar to make it easier for me. The only negative thing I can say is that there is a significant "pop" whenever I toggle the pedal on & off - much more than with any of my other effects. Isn't a really big deal since for me it's an "always on" pedal. FYI, I located mine at the beginning of the pedal chain & haven't tried any other locations. I'm also running it at 18V.

Shawn another most "excellent" showcase and demo of a really fine sounding "EQ" style pedal that should greatly compliment any amp,guitar and pedal rig combo! Your playing at the first of the video was "heavenly" sounding! :-) I will put this pedal under my radar for sure! Would love to hear your PRS McCarty through this pedal! Mac

Some cool outside the box thinking from PettyJohn here...I really dig the pro recording studio influence. And, of course beautiful tones and playing Shawn. I think this box would be absolutely awesome with the EF86 channel of my Magic Amps Brit MK2 which is very sweet sounding but in vintage Vox style very limited in terms of EQ. Oh, and hint. Even though it's electric guitar tuned I bet it sounds killer on DI'd acoustic!

Beautiful song lovely chords. So for bar gigs and switching guitars around how would you compare this to the Buxom Boost pedal? This sounds very good and maybe better for fine adjustments but the Buxom Boost seems like it would be easier to change on the fly at gigs.
@ShawnTubbs
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Tom! The Filter is a very musical EQ pedal and the and Buxom is a fabulous boost pedal with EQ but it's hard to really draw a comparison. I think for fly gigs either pedal would work well within certain parameters. The Filter isn't a boost pedal per se so if that's a need for you then you might want to go that route. If you just need a really sweet pre or post board EQ than the Filter would fit the bill. Both really great pedals.
@stephenpettyjohn5465
6 жыл бұрын
To add to shawns points, the Filter is designed with enough gain pn tap to be used in most boost situations. With eq flat, it has around 6 db of gain, if you use boosting in the filters, its more. Cheers!

Shawn, in all seriousness, can you run a Kickstarter or something to create an instrumental album? Your tracks are so accessible by a variety of audiences, Re: PJ's Filter, it's obviously awesome for very specific situations, but without presets, is this practical as a resident on a board? I would think you have to do a lot of tweaking depending on what guitar/pedal combo you're using.

I have a DGT as well. Are you running the volumes full up on the guitar or are they backed off a bit? Same with the universal tone knob. Thanks. :)
@ShawnTubbs

Right on! Yeah that DGT is a great guitar. I'm generally all over the place with all my guitars when it comes to volume and tone settings but I always try and keep the settings full up for demos.
@SuperReverb2
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shawn! Greatly appreciated. I've had my DGT since 2011. Ten top purchased at Wildwood Guitars. I've always loved the bridge pickup, but I must admit I've been all over the map on my feelings for the neck pickup. This is at full volume for both pickups by the way, thus the reason for my question. I do find that the difference between the two pickups is reduced somewhat with the volumes rolled back a bit (treble bleed circuit as well) but then I run the risk of "thinning" out the bridge too much in order to relieve some of the "woofiness" I hear in the neck at full volume. I was contemplating a Lollar Low Wind Imperial for the neck of my DGT, but now your demo of the PettyJohn Filter has got me thinking in another direction. Interesting pedal for sure. Like the 18 volt option as well. Curious if you have tried the Deluxe version of the Filter? Take care Chuck
@ShawnTubbs
6 жыл бұрын
Right on Chuck. I too contemplated losing the neck pickup for something else but that DGT is just so...DEE GEE TEE!!;) I can't bring myself to mess with it. I've only played the standard filter but I'm sure deluxe is even better as I believe it is discrete op amp driven.
@SuperReverb2
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks again. Heard the neck vs the bridge conundrum from quite a few DGT owners/players. I've managed to dial in some very nice, balanced tones (from neck to bridge) with the volumes down, but can't say the same with the volumes on full. Love the tones with the volumes down, but want to add/replace some of the dynamics and gain that's seems to be lost when the volumes are down. Beautiful cleans for sure though. Was even thinking of a very mild, transparent OD as well (Greer Lightspeed seems to come to mind here) but now I'm thinking the PettyJohn filter might be the way to go. Looks like I could "alter" the neck enough with the volumes on full to make it play nicer with the bridge, and it also looks like I could add some "hair" and thickness back to the notes (as an always on pedal) with the volumes turned down. Mmmmm. Decisions. Decisions. ha ha
