If the differential decided to lock, this could be catastrophic.

I wasn’t trying to expect full lock up, who in their right mind expects full lock up? I am simply trying to illustrate on the video how little if any a product that was advertised as an Limited Slip makes so my fellow enthusiasts out there will be informed. Comparing it to a “TRUE” lsd like a quaif, or a stock gsr lsd the difference is huge. It seems that if we spend a little money on parts which is a fraction of a true lsd, we get a fraction effectiveness...

@@mikedoingmikethings702 I mean I have a quaife and I inadvertantly did something similar to this and got similar results when I jacked up the front of the car since something was knocking and the car tilted when I sat in it lmao

Phantom grip is a straight line locker only, if it senses one wheel is unloaded and other one isnt, it unlocks to allow movement(like turning the wheels for a corner) It will never perform like an LSD in corners , like this test is trying to prove. It will lock the wheels, under equal load(straight line) and thats all its intended to do. Its operating normal in this video(unlocking to prevent gear bind in a corner)

type-dRew The point that I was trying to make is it was advertised as an “LSD” but it did not work (enough to take notice) as it was advertised. Returning it is not possible as it stated “product has to be in un-used condition” the best I could do is show what I originally intended it to do, to “limit” slip. The way these were designed was not locking/unlocking. It is engaged 100% of the time but due to the tolerance, it was not quite made to fit “all”. I intended to use the car for autocross and it goes to show that the product does not put out enough friction to propel the vehicle forward with one wheel is off the ground.

you flat out just bought the wrong product for your intended purpose. and yes these are strictly meant as a locker. whether or not it works in a straight line correctly is all about install, the shims and tolerances need to be right. they will NEVER help in corners because all they can do is full lock and full unlock and nothing in between. if it was 'working' in the corners, you would effectively have a welded diff and would push wide. I have put phantom grips in 2 different cars over the years and they worked great, exactly as intended. locked in a straight line, open diff in the corners. call and talk to them, they'll tell you it wasnt supposed to help in the corners, it cant.
@da6xsi06

I could tell just by observing it only locks in straight lines just as advertised. There's a reason they never promote it on circuit tracks or auto cross.

@@mikedoingmikethings702 did u check 0.08mm to 0.12mm tolerance between PG plates and spyder gears after installation? Or are they loose? PG LSD is intended as permanent locker till one wheel load disengages. There's a stiffer race spring kit making harder to disengage locking. While torsen lsd starts open diff and bias ratio only under one wheel more torque applaied than other but two all on the ground, PG lsd works backwards starting as locker but opening under hard stress when one wheel load overcomes PG springs load. What u show in this short clip it is not a lsd but oem open diff. If u install correctly PG lsd and u repeat short clip test u see all two wheels moving together. Street or race kit.

Gianluca Bandini it was quite tight... not tighter as i wanted it though... probably have someone weld .25” material to the spider gear mating surface...

But, the important thing for drag racing... Does it smoke both wheels in the burnout pad? That's about all this would be good for I think, transferring that little bit more torque to get both wheels spinning

This vid actually proves that the lsd works lol noticed how once he let off the gas the wheel comes to a stop? I'm just wondering how durable it is and I don't like the fact that you can't adjust the pressure.

comments claim this does 2 wheel burnouts? and it's a strait line locker but open diff in turns? HTH is that possible? just look at the construction, it applies constant pressure but doesn't have clutches, there is no friction material to lock the axles together. if this thing really works I'd love a technical explanation of how.

thanks for this. i was wondering how much lock these offer. i can't see it doing much of anything without clutches like a traction lock/posi diff. it's basically just applying pressure to the face of the spider gears. smooth metal/metal contact lubricated in oil, pointless.

You did this test completely wrong. Even a legit lsd will act like this with one wheel loaded and one not unless it’s a lsd such as a wavetrac that is meant to lock at all times
@mikedoingmikethings702
5 жыл бұрын
chevy1539 you miss my point though... “they” advertised it as an LSD which I believe is not. Even with a viscous/helical/torsen lsd at 1 and 1.5 LSD would at least have some sort of force to move the car forward at dead stop. I am NOT dismissing this part COMPLETELY as it probably has some sort of effect, but not something I could verify with significant results. I am just sharing my experience to give back to those thinking about going this route. Now, explain why a “LEGIT” lsd will act like a non lsd transmission because I haven’t seen one yet that completely dismisses the wheel when it is free spinning.

Both wheels have to be on the ground. It is lsd. You obviously don’t know what “lsd” actually means. Please stop Misinforming people. Furthermore. Common sense would tell you buying a spring loaded double plate to put in your OPEN DIFF isn’t a real lsd. If it didn’t then sorry dude you weren’t born with common sense. With that being said. If you wanted a locked diff. You’d have to weld it. That’s the only thing your little test here would distinguish. Good luck dude. Smh
