Tauhid (1967) Tauhid Tauhid is a jazz album by saxophonist Pharoah Sanders. It was the second album released under his name, and his first album on the Impulse! label. It was recorded on November 15, 1966 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, four days after the concert heard on the John Coltrane album Offering: Live at Temple University, and was released in 1967, after the death of Coltrane, with whom Sanders had played since 1965. Tauhid was reissued in 2017 on Anthology Recordings. The album marks guitarist Sonny Sharrock's first appearance on a record, as well as one of pianist Dave Burrell's earliest recordings.
Upper and Lower Egypt - my favourite piece of music since I first heard it 30 years ago as an idiot teenager. Still making the universe a better place. Thank you Pharoah.

Mr Pharaoh Sanders was my first jazz infatuation, back in the 1960's. It took us across deserts, over seas, and through the realms of creation. Trane was dead, but his spirit lived on to enrich us who listened and felt. The solo converted me!

Once again Pharoah did not disappoint, what an album! The young Pharoah Sanders apparently had that incredible trademark sound already back in 1966, gentle and rough at the same time. So real, so touching. Thank you for sharing this. This might just be the next vinyl I purchase...

Loving it! It reminds me some more progressive Ornette Coleman recordings, but more varied in tones.

Great album, too bad this japan break is ruining the whole thing right in the middle of the album.

The album is about spirituality and the unity of mankind. Why not Japanese "roots" music? Look at what they survived! I was advised by a Japanese acquaintance that the piece was beggar music (street music).
