Yeah It's hard to show on video how it feels. It's definitely a must-have for this car. It's always better to have all those parts too to maximize the gains as each mod you'll add after the tune will cost around 250 per dyno re-tune. So it's best to collect everything you'd want before the tune.

@TheShaddix
5 жыл бұрын
@@DWIGGING once you get tuned, even with an etune, the car is tuned for your current setup. Once you change anything, you'll need a revision if it's an etune, especially an intake, jpipe, etc. With a dyno tune you have to go back and get retuned on the dyno, so it's best to get all the mods done that you would want, then install them all within a few days and go get tuned. Your tuner is supposed to give you a base map for all the mods so the car won't throw codes, but don't get on it until you're clear to do so.

Nice car and video. My only gripe about these engines is how they fall off at the top as seen by the dyno graph 1:54. My last 3 cars all pulled to red line so it is very likely just a personal preference. My cars were/are: '17 5.0 mustang, 08 civic si, '98 big turbo built integra. I had a 2.3L turbo car before that which also got lazy up top and it just wasn't for me. However I can't argue that the WRX sounds incredible and in a 4 door package I am always tempted to go shopping for one. Thanks again for the video!

Just wondering, since you had your car tuned to be more responsive, were you able to gain power from 4000 rpm to red line? Part of the reason I liked my 18 wrx was its responsiveness down low. Stage 1 maperformance made it smoother but felt like l lost some of that responsiveness.
@TheShaddix
5 жыл бұрын
Totally different how it picks up and pulls to redline if compared to any "free" map. It's also different than stock and the torque curve picks up slightly later in the rpm, but that's safer for the rods. I had that maperformance map before this, stage 2, and I really did not like how dull the car felt and it would die in neutral every now and then because of the rpm droop. That's what you get with a one size fits all tune. It actually wasn't any faster than stock, just smoother like you said. And by smoother I am only taking about the mid rpm dip on the stock tune being gone. Overall, it wasn't all that smooth and had small dips too. And it ran rich. Once I got an etune from phatbotti it changed the car completely (etune comes first before the dyno). I heard great things about them from many people, but it takes one to experience it first hand to see what it's all about. I can tell you straight up I would not want to drive this car stock again. That instant torque at 2k rpm isn't really a good thing for the engine either. That's when you can snap/bend a rod. With the new tune the max torque is around 3.5-4k. You still have plenty of it below that but not as crazy as stock. If this is the only mod you do to your car, then it's the best mod out of all of them. People who avoid tuning due to the warranty are totally missing out, but I understand their reasoning.

Hey, I am in the North county of SD. I don't mind driving for a good tune. I went with phatbotti because I heard from many people about his tuning. I have a friend who regularly tracks his wrx and he's been tuned by Ron for a while, no issues, and I doubt anyone beats on their car as much as he does. Also, if you google phatbotti, you see their rating and reviews, it's a no-brainer. Also, read about Ron's past work experience on his site. He's a rocket scientist. What more to say? I can tell you first hand his tuning on wrx is some of the best, if not the best, there is. He tunes only subaru and I think it's only sti and wrx... And been doing that for a very long time. He's cool to deal with in person or via email and extremely responsive, so if I need anything updated on the tune, I can hit him up and get a revision within a day, so extremely organized too! I asked for an even more sharper throttle map and got an update super fast. Good luck getting that from other tuners! Besides, other places tune a bunch of cars and aren't as focused on one thing. When you work on the same thing for this long, you tend to master it. And if you forget all that I just said and just trust how the tune feels in a practical way when cruising or accelerating, it's just everything anyone would wish for. Not saying other tunes are not as good, but I personally wouldn't bother going elsewhere.

I like the sound a lot so I highly recommend it. I went from stock to a boomba bpv and didn't like the sound, switched to turboxs and it's perfect. No issues with the functionality. Thanks man! I think I will pull the trigger tonight or tomorrow. Gonna finish up some more research lol. I see the amount of washers being a big topic item on these. Any suggestions?
@TheShaddix
6 жыл бұрын
Don't even worry about the washers. I called turboxs about that. They told me to just install it with the washers already installed. The extra washers are for higher boost applications. The valve will stay closed even with a soft spring. The stock one is so soft it's scary to think it would hold any boost. But it does. Also, the boomba has a very stiff spring, can barely press it in by hand. That's something I'd actually worry about. It's about 20x harder than turboxs and stock springs. Hence it always makes that flutter sound as the valve just won't open enough. To me that does not sound like a good design. The stock bpv is perfect in this regard, so why make the spring any harder? There are people running good power on stock bpv's. Do your research all day and night, but be careful about what you read. A lot of people will advise to go with something they have and will talk badly about stuff they never even tried and only read it somewhere else too. That cycle of misinformation continues without anyone to stop it and it'll drive you crazy just reading reviews and posts. I can tell you from my experience that the turboxs sounds the best vs. stock and especially vs. boomba as that one sounds like a choking horse (it was funny at first but got old quick). Go to the phatbotti site and read his mod suggestions as the guy has seen every possible variation of bpv/bov setups and still recommends the stock bpv as everything else is just a waste of money. For me it was purely for the sound! Just like getting an intake... Stock intake is plenty, but i got mine for the spool and to hear the bpv as the stock is silent.

we did this process with my tuner for about 3 weeks, back and forth, e-tuning before the dyno. I trust whatever Ron did on his dyno as he spent hours on it. I really don't want to have the AP mounted and constantly looking at it driving myself crazy. In my 350z I had a super expensive HKS knock amp monitor setup and I never cared to look at it. That car is still running solid with its 4th owner and 50k miles, still with the twin turbo kit at 420 whp, no issues because I went to the best tuner the first time around and never had to do any adjustments. Not to mention someone will eventually steal the ap mounted in the car visibly... Disconnecting it every time I leave the car, now that sounds impractical. Most people leave them on. Only a matter of time before someone thinks it's a cell phone... I may sound like i am careless but trust me, I am not. I just want to believe Ron did everything right on my car. If you want to monitor your knock, then that's cool. It can throw off false knocks all the time due to many factors. Also, I never abuse my car. If I did, then maybe I'd be more concerned.

The total really depends on how good of a deal you can get on each of these items. The list of all the mods is in the description (there aren't that many). I can't give you an accurate total because some of the parts I bought on sale or second-hand. The dyno tune cost is 500. You can skip the charge pipe, intake, and the bpv as those hardly provide any gains. Mostly for sound and faster spool-up.

U talked about the amount of gas u give it to the amount of power u get..imo this is not a good thing with the fa20 because it builds boost in such low rpm so if ur at 2300rpm an give it to much gas it cam snap a con rod..just my 2cent to each there own

I agree with you on this for the most part, but with the increased throttle sensitivity you have to follow rules as well. Ron gave me this map when I told him I wanted the car to feel more edgy, so he knows it's safe as long as the obvious points are taken into consideration. For one, I never punch it below 4k. If i am cruising around 2k, I will feed in throttle gradually. The ebcs also just doesn't allow for enough boost at low rpm so you get a lot of that pressure release noise until about 4k. Sounds like it's spitting but it's normal. Doesn't matter if you punch it to the floor, it just won't let you be stupid, not with this tune and ebcs. But i don't abuse my car, even if it looked like that in this video.

TheShaddix are u saying with a tune you need to drive it conservative not aggressive?
@TheShaddix

@@TheMikesyd not at all. You can beat on it all day as long as you follow common sense rules. Make sure you get it to 190f oil temp, run proper oil in the first place, also don't abuse it at low rpm like 2-3k. If you punch it, do it around 4k, way safer and also you are in the perfect power band. Also, with this tune and the ebcs it just won't let you abuse it at lower rpm as it'll keep letting out boost until around 4k.

TheShaddix I own stock 18 wrx..flooring it below 4K rpm is not ideal? I don’t floor it often but I’m sure I’ve done some pulls below 4K...would recommend leaving it stock or consider some mods? I’m new to this and I don’t want to ruin warranty yet.

@@itsmeecjay4769 get phatbotti to tune your car and you will never look back. I won't go into detail on the differences. Simply put, an etune or a dyno are the only two things you should ever do to your car and not waste your money and time on garbage maps that are plug and play for all cars. I ran one too and it was a headache for sure.

@@andrewdavis3914 has nothing to do with what turbo you're using. Ebcs replaces the stock boost controller and is much more efficient at managing boost and is a must for an etune or dyno tune. As far as the second question, you have to decide if it's worth it. In my opinion it's best to get all the mods at once and go for a dyno tune. If you have to, just collect them one by one. You don't want to get one mod and then get a tune. And avoid any ots maps, go straight for an etune at least.
