Hes HUSTLING his ass off, every minute he is playing. Defense Offense, he attacks the ball 24/7 full throttle. The way regular players might play in the last seconds of a game when it counts. Kobe had to develop the extra footwork and ball handling bc he needed it more than Jordan who was also more skilled than the players of his time but was simply able to accomplish more bc of sheer athleticism. Apart from athleticism and defense, as someone referenced, Jordan had greater team chemistry and shot selection- he was known both for staying inside the triangle offense and utilized moving w/o the ball for a catch and shoot. Kobe did a bit more 1-on-1 even in his repeat Lakers days than Jordan did during his championship seasons.

Pacfanweb sure I'll explain... most of Jordans shots were lay ups or dunks. That's how he played. Kobe shot more outside shots. Of course jordan would have a better %. But that would be like saying shaq is a better shooter than Steve Nash. Kobe was a far better shooter. If you don't think so, u obviously haven't watched many games. Even scottie pippen and mj himself are on record saying so. And there's a big reason why, for 8 years straight, nba gms voted kobe the man they'd like to have the ball in his hands with the game on the line. Pure shooter, best maker of tough shots and CLUTCH. Jordan shot a higher percentage because of HANDS. What I mean by that is when you can hold the ball behind your back with one hand, it puts something in the mind of a defender that 99% of them, particularly guards experience. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THIS CREATES SPACE AND LESSENS THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY. Add to the like Phil said, Michael's was stronger and had a bigger body. That equals a higher FG%.

Kobe was the better shooter, ball handler and overall had better skill (most of it is due to playing after MJ and other greats) Kobe was probably never the explosive athlete that MJ was in Kobe's hayday, agility Kobe has that one but body control is tough since I've seen moves Mike's done that still haven't been duplicated, but Kobe have done more of it but MJ has a couple magical plays. Defender slightly goes to Mike beacuse of physical ability. Mike is the better leader and more consistent, Kobe is more of an example type of leader due to his introverted personality. I mean... its hard but I guess MJ takes it even tho Kobe's skill was greater. but MJ's recipe was more successful. God I love these guys.

Tho I will concede Kobe is probably the better modern ball handler of the 2. Kobe had the benefit of playing with the new rules where certain ball handling skills could really be taken advantage of...whereas before it was much more unrealistic and just not done outside of playgrounds with all the handchecking and defenders being able to camp in the lane on defense. Typically you had to power around defenders due to the resistance of handchecking....and then you had to deal with the likes of skilled bigs like Mutumbo, Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, Kareem, Barkley, Malone, etc (or enforcers that would tryin hurt you like Bill Laimbeer) camping in the lane. I would've loved to have seen what Allen Iverson could do in this era. Scary. Today's game would benefit him tremendously.

Phil also said Kobe tried to shoot himself into a rythm. MJ found other ways to contribute to win. He and Tex winter also emphasized the strength difference. Kobe would get pushed around more, and pushed off when trying to establish post position. MJ was near immovable. 2000s and before, defense was allowed to impede offensive movement. Starting around 2000, they started making that illegal. In 04, they strictly enforced and removed hand checking. That's when Kobe went on his scoring spree. In old days, his Wesker strength wouldn't allow him to move freely and thus get out of his rythm, more tired, etc.

This is pretty much the same thing I've said too. The strength difference between the two was very noticeable. Especially in the beginning with Kobe, when he would do the turn around fade away. Prime KB is more flawless in skills, higher accuracy (especially 3-points). I love both of them. MJ is born to be God. KB trained himself to be one. To me, KB is more favorable cuz he put more efforts to achieve (i think this is just a matter of perspective). In terms of skills and only skills, KB is better. +Max Schlepzig MJ's game was more disciplined than Kobe's when he enter the league. Kobe was more raw. Michael already had the experience of winning an NCAA Championship with North Carolina and an Olympic Gold Medal as an Amateur with team USA before he even played a single game in the NBA. Furthermore, he couldn't have asked for a better mentor in college than legendary Tar Heels coach Dean Smith, who MJ said was like a second father to him. On the other hand, Kobe went straight from high school. Had he played for a coach like Dean Smith prior to going pro, I bet he would have become even better than he did; not that that he didn't turn into great Hall of Fame player without that experience. But, while Kobe never played in college, his father still played in the NBA unlike MJ's, and Kobe also had a great example in Jordan to follow and inspire him to be great, in addition to Jordan's former coach and conductor of the triangle offense in Phil Jackson.

Phil JUST explained why HE said it though. MJ was more size and power...Kobe was more grace and finesse. Finesse takes more skill. Therefore, Kobe is more skilled in Phil's eyes. Doesn't mean that MJ isn't the GOAT. He CLEARLY accomplished more than ANYONE DID in that relatively short amount of time...but Kobe was EXTREMELY skilled...and he did more with less, contrary to popular belief.
@SwishScopeOfficial
8 жыл бұрын
+sherbertdjones Kobe did not do more with less. He did good enough with less. Let's not act like Kobe wasn't also athletically gifted and as if MJ wasn't also extremely skilled. It's not MJ's fault that his team IQ is higher and that he's more fundamentally sound than Kobe to the point where he didn't need to constantly rely on a larger array of skills to get his results. It's also not MJ's fault that he let the game come to him and dictated its pace meaning he didn't need to overcompensate his skillset and attempt difficult shots. You're looking at only the result instead of what MJ did to set himself up to get the "results that look like they don't require as much skills as Kobe's results". MJ did more with what he was given than Kobe, even with the circumstances as they stand with MJ being more athletically gifted than Kobe. If Kobe was even on MJ's plateau as a basketball player instead of being outclassed in nearly every facet of the game, then your last statement would seem more true.

Dereck Dunn u got kobes rebounding completely wrong. and to be more accurate count kobes stats from age 21-34 and Michael Jordan's. u will realize they r alot more similar than u think. after that consider on ave kobes defender was 1.2 Inches taller than mjs defenders. top that compare it to the league Ave and separate the fact that Kobe took much more 3s than mj thus hurting his fg% rather than helping it
@bballah4lyfe
7 жыл бұрын
Dereck Dunn top that consider that Kobe took the most fg attempts than any nba player in nba history with 2 seconds or less left on the clock. he has more than anyone else by double the amount. so alot of shots kobe took were buzzer shots where the team could not find a shot and forced it to kobe where kobe would somehow have to take a bad shot to stop the clock from expiring. he's a career 28% on those shots which of course hurt his overall fg%. then u consider kobe playing with the most injuries compared to anyone else for 20 years. look at his monthly stats without injuries u will see something like 30 6 5 2 vs when he's hurt 22 4 4 2 numbers.

If you ask me this vid shows exactly why kobe is the most skilled...he didnt have the superior athletic ability as Jordan, didnt have the physical attributes but was still comparable to Jordan. So imagine if he did have the athletic and physical attributes... Jordan is better for sure but i dont think the gap is super wide either.

There is no if here. The “if Kobe had better attributes, he’d be better” he didn’t. You’re describing a different person entirely when you bring up if’s. That different person is MJ

KOBE had the BEST SKILLSET at 19 than ANYBODY(playing against Euro-Pros at 8 yrs old will do that), but MIKE'S FUNDAMENTALS were unmatched(UNC). COACH knew THOSE 2 well. Good video.

Love how Jackson describes the Black Mamba as 'slithery'
