Phil the Thrill. The guile of a gambler. And the guts of the Champion that he is. Zinger said it. Phil is one of the all time greats.

Even with the 3 green jackets and the PGA, this is a legendary win and his best in my book. Had tiger on his tail and he played the round of his life to capture the elusive Claret jug. Huge win, I'm so happy he accomplished this.

What a champion. Mickelson is one of the best ever, without question. And what a golf course. Muirfield is one of the best courses on the open rota for sure, and even the world. Muirfield and Carnoustie are the two best in my opinion.

What will be totally different at Carnoustie for the 2018 Open Championship? It will be without the lyrical splendor, divine deviancy, evil genius, and mind-to-mouth without guard word murals of Sir Peter Alliss. A real rascal's rascal. Living legend. Watch his acceptance speech during his induction to The World Golf Hall of Fame. It's short, hilarious and will make any day better. Thank you, Peter for everything you have done to help shape my life. A bill shall be forthcoming in your mail.

Have to give massive credit to Mickleson, he threw Tom Watson under the proverbial bus after the 2014 Ryder Cup and that was such a cheap shot BUT whats not commonly known is he and his wife were constantly in touch with Watson and his wife when Toms wife was dying of cancer late last year. A class thing to do
@dr.pendyke4887

Not a cheap shot at all, it was the culmination of years of frustration aimed at a guy who refused to listen to his players. It led to, BTW, the complete overhaul of how we approach these matches and we have seen some success since. The players on that team were beyond frustrated with Watson and Phil being the senior player did the tough thing. Reports were that Phil tried to do it one on one after the match but Watson flatly refused to listen. Phil has since said he regrets doing it at the press conference but that it just sort of all bubbled to the surface then, not his plan though.

@@dr.pendyke4887 There was a time and a place and the press conference IMHO wasnt the place to do it, However i have since changed my opinion of Mickleson for reasons listed above. As one of Watsons biggest fans i will admit he made mistakes in the RC not least the crazy decsion of dropping Speith and Reed after the first set of matches. I did think when he was appointed in 2012 it was on balance probably the wrong decision but the fact remains he is still the only USA captain to win the Ryder cup on european soil since 1981 and maybe that was part of the thuinking of the USGA committee when appointing him for a second time

In case anyone was wondering. The reason the scoring was so high that year was due to the sweltering heat. As a result the greens were rock hard and pros used to be playing high spin shots. Found their balls going through the back of greens.
