WIBG was fading before the attempt to be a new "adult contemporary" Wizard-100. And as far as I could tell back then, successor WZZD fell flat until it changed to that narrow-casting of Contemporary Christian, a format it seemed to keep for decades after. That WIOQ clip is quintessential 1970s FM -- at least for the older kids and young adults! By the way, I think this is your best clip yet of a mix of Philly-area stations, stevations. The FM sounds more like FM!

I'd often listen to WIOQ on Sunday, when WIOQ played the very best of progressive Rock. Jim Harlan would be on most Sundays, and when he'd come on, he'd say, "11:13 at Q. We have some Beatles tunes coming up on Q. This is Jimi Hendrix!" -Mark Weintraub

The death of WIBG came shortly before my switch from AM to FM as a mid-teen. I started playing with the radio dial and found a few good Rock stations, then hearing what my cousin and some friends were listening to completed the transition. The three great Philly Rock stations at the time were WMMR 93.3, WYSP 94, and WIOQ 102. WIFI (no, not the home network) was a good fallback station. The DJs talked to you and not at you, completing an enjoyable radio experience. A standout was WIOQ, aka Q102. Their "Best of Progressive Rock" weekends were awesome, especially for someone trying to find good artists to listen to. And none of those stations were dictated by playlists. The DJs played what they wanted to. Nothing like today, with the exception of WXPN , 88.5.
