December 16, 2023, marks the 250th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. Pennsylvania played a key role in the original colonies’ protest and rejection of the 1773 British Tea Act. The Philadelphia Resolutions of 1773, written on October 16, of that year, were the first organized public protest against this new tax. Philadelphians refused to allow the British Ship Polly to unload its cargo of British Tea in its harbor on December 27, 1773, and called on all those who loved liberty to refuse & resist taxed tea shipments and the British Tea Act.
