That was exciting for sure!!! Hope you have a fire extinguisher in the lab just in case.... I did the same thing once, just in a hurry and not paying attention. that was 15 years ago,,, 🙂 This video is Rated "E" for excitement!!!

Your backwards cap blew the binding wire off the rectifier (it happens). It is a safety device they put in rectifier tubes to act as a fuse to help save the transformer.
