Some repairs can become a nightmare you can do without. All part of the rich tapestry of life when it comes to consumer electronics. We have all been there at some point. I hope it stays fixed this time.

Not seen the inside of one of those TVs before Allen. Nice repair. Good to see that you are sorting the backlights issue without charging them. I am sure that it will be good for you in the long run. Let’s hope so. Regards, Brian 👏👍🏴👏👍🏴

Greetings: Television sets have degraded since the 50s. I remember watching a set glow about 5 minutes then the sound came on. Another 10 minutes the picture started. About 20 minutes I was watching McHale's Navy. Yhe fun part was shutting it off after and then the lights. 30 minutes later, the screen was still glowing. A great nightlight 4 that last minute bathroom run. Those of U who can relate 2 this understand my point. These young pups think the new panel sets R so great. The truth is young laddys, the consumer market has been a disposable business after the 80s (including autos). They love 2 tease me about my old dinosaurs. Yeah but they still function.. and I can repair them if they fail...with a smile.

Nice fix Allen I hope it stays working I used to have them come back a week or so later now I just replace the whole set, or replace every led as it’s quicker then waiting 12 days for a set to turn up 😊

I wonder if the new mainboard had the backlights set to max and the old one didnt, and it maybe killed off the leds that were on the way out. I did one of these ambilights where i bypassed a bad led and the tv only lasted a couple of days, ended up having to get a new set of strips for it, also ive done a couple of these where there was high resistance over those connectors in the middle of the strips..always worth checking over them

i should have picked up a 2 year old hisense tv i saw dumped in the street, most likely backlights the next day kids had smashed the screen out of it a 4k set with hdr .They use double sided tape on the reflection sheet and the one guy i watched made it look a pain and thats why i left it ,the day after another american guy i follow done the backlights on a 65 inch hisense set he carefully manipulated the sheet and made it look far easier ,he used to suction cup things to remove the screen ,had his video came out a day before i would have got it .

Tbh I'd rather take out a couple of dozen screws that I can replace vs random plastic clips that I'll probably break.

I've done 1 of these but put a née backlight in 90 pounds from ebay. When I removed the screen I'm sure I cliped the black frame of and lifted the screen of with the frame I'm sure it looked like you removed the adhesive away from the screen.

Don't understand why so many factories use such ice cold blue LED. light all the time? I have it on my IPS. screen in my huawei honor8. IMPOSSIBLE to adjust the correct white balance. you will always get a too cold blueish image. Sometimes too red. That's why my favorite is LCD with Fluorescent light. LED, LED screens also have other problems that LED screens often struggle with, which is due to incorrect use of LEDs. bulbs. 1.Flickering since the light controller runs at too low a frequency 2. LEDs. driven too hard. 3.Does not spread well enough but stronger straight ahead and creates weak light spots. 4. Phosphor coating inside the LED. the bulb is burned away by the heat and then creates the violet light.

Are the back lights expensive? After all, they are only led's.

Some places charge £175 to put a new set in. But even if I did it at cost it’s still extra and a 2,week wait.

@@mikeuk1954 They can be under a tenner for a complete set, but you really need to know what you're doing with them. First time I tried I put the screen back in 1mm out in the frame and cracked the panel as I was clipping it back together. Big risk if it's someone else's set as you're then on the hook for a replacement TV.

Have to surmise that the LEDs started to go on the fritz, and the customer got round this by turning the backlight control right down (which I think everyone should do out the box). You replace the main board but that was set to run the LEDs at full pelt again? 2019 and needing new backlights, pathetic really. Good old China!

I saw a 2 year old hisense tv thrown out, a 50 inch 4k set most likely backlights ,wish i had grabbed it now might have been good with just a new set of led strips .Kids smashed it by the next day as they do .

@@paulb4uk unless it was a cracked screen... I have to say failure after two years is bordering on criminal, the sale of goods act really should kick in on products this new - and premature failures on Hisense TVs is far from uncommon as well. It may have just been the two capacitors on the LED power supply - these commonly fail on these, which would have been a major score.

@@paulb4uk They're not up to much in my experience - I have seen several with issues at young ages that really shouldn't be going wrong like that, and Sharp actually sued Hisense in 2017 in the States as the sets Hisense had contract manufactured for them (and were identical to the ones Hisense were selling) failed safety testing and were found to be non-compliant which damaged Sharp's reputation. I do have a very old Cello set that is all Hisense inside and has lasted, but the quality of the software and the sound is abysmal. Not for me, although I'd have one for free!
