What streaming device is HuePlay compatible with? I tried Roku but Roku isn’t compatible with Spectrum anymore. I got an Apple TV device and it worked for a little while then I had issues with the hue play and they sent a replacement. I couldn’t get it to work though connected the same way. So I have to go back to the Roku and I get jerky video since Roku/Spectrum are no longer compatible. What are my choices to get everything to mesh together?

The last example is what I did with a mounted 75”. 5 play bars at the bottom, facing downward. It worked very well. If you do this, be sure to bring them high enough so that the light itself is not visible and it blends with the gradient strip. The example shows this perfectly. Helpful video.

Phillips Hue should have ensured the LEDs wrap around the entire TV and not 3/4 of the way. Maybe than we wouldn't need a Tips & Tricks video to make the LED Lightstrips better! As Phillips being the world leaders in lighting - these LEDs are quite tragic. What's more tragic is that you'd have to get the HDMI Sync Box which costs the same as the Lightstrips for the lights to sync with what's displayed...

So many people asking if they can fit the larger size strip to their tv, thinking it will better but, in reality, the light zones will be out of synch with the screen and/or the strips will be too close to the edge being a distraction. @@Justin_tech Totally off subject of this video but I posted a question over on Reddit about not having the option (in the Hue app) to have a favourite scene as the default setting when you turn on your lights. Only thing is, it has brought up another thing where I mentioned using Shortcuts. I did start to try and explain but realised, reading back, what I had written made it sound 20 times harder than it actually is and thought, “What this needs is a tutorial video by a professional!” (And thought of you straightaway lol) Tbh, I’m quite new to the Shortcuts thing on iOS and finding them quite limited in what you can do, but have found out, once you create a scene and save it as a Shortcut, it is then saved in the Alexa app routine options, opening up a whole world of options with just one Alexa trigger. All this may be common knowledge to a lot of people already but going by how much Hue stuff looks to have been sold this Black Friday (week/month?!), there will be lots of people new to it all as well and thought it would maybe be a good video for you to do?

@SimonLeicester

Good video as usual Justin. Or you could buy a $25 5 metre Govee Dreamcolour LED strip if you wanted to manually specially different colours along an LED strip. These knocks spots off the standard Philips Hue lightstrip at a third of the price. I do feel Philips are being 'cheap' by designing the gradient light strip to go round just 3 sides of the TV. Surely, as people have demonstrated, it should really have gone round all 4 sides of a TV. How on earth can they launch a product of this nature and you not being able to manually designate the zone colours from the HUE app. How will you ever get that rainbow flag effect. If you add it the cost of the Sync box, the gradient strip itself plus the Hue Hub if starting from scratch you're looking at around £450 / $450 for coloured lights round your TV. It's a nice gimmick but difficult to justify the cost. Bit different if you're given the kit as a freebie. How future proof is the sync box. Is it fully compatible with the higher output of the new Xbox Series x or PS5. Are Philips going to issue a software update or just launch a new version of the sync box in 6 months time PS: Philips Hue Black Friday deals are rubbish this year. Virtually all of them are annoying bundles including something you wouldn't normally choose to buy. Come on Philips, you can do better. I do like my Philips Hue kit but is beginning to look severely overpriced as companies bring new kit to the market.

It was also interesting how to implement full backlighting from four sides. But you have not considered the option of using two gradient lightstrips. @@Justin_tech yes. I have video of it happening. My entertainment space set did bedroom was activate while watching the Mandalorian and the living room was syncing exactly the same as bedroom. I contacted support and when they got back to me a week later, I was told you need a second sync box. But even then, you can only operate 1 sync box at a time on same bridge. What was first believed to be a issue of not having the second sync bod showed that if you set living room entertainment space to sync, it also overreaches to bedroom one now too. Looking on forums, it appears this has been seen since even the early play lights. Yep, it should be strictly be a software thing that they should fix.

It really depends on your setup and what looks best. It’s definitely easier to attach them aiming at the wall using the included mounts. I feel like it may look better facing the wall because it will diffuse the light better. Just make sure to test out the height before attaching. You don’t want them to outside the gradient strip, so they may need to go higher than expected.

Hi Justin! Happy New Year to you! Just wanted to pick your brain? Took the plunge and bought the sync box with 2 play bars to sync in with a light strip. Connected all up and works well however every so often the screen blanks out and loses the picture and syncing. Have tried all the ports and still the same. Also wanted to know if you would know the answer to the following. I know the sync box cannot cope with a 3d signal via the sync box due to the way the signals are sent. But wonder if a video splitter that filtered out the 3d signal and fed back into the sync box would work with a direct video fed to the tv? If so would you know of any spitters that would perform? ttfn

Any issues reported on those LG b9 c2 models with thin glass set ups with these lights ? I see the lights have 3m to stick the light guides and not sure if that may harm the tv

It works with anything - it uses your phone's microphone, so play music anywhere and it will listen.

are you able to fit a larger gradient lightstrip to a smaller TV ( for example I would like to get one to fully go around a 43 inch TV )
@Justin_tech
3 жыл бұрын
You may be able to get away with the 55" on a 43" tv if you slighly cure the sides into the middle of the tv. You can't wrap it around the bottom - it wont sync correctly.

Justin ...... So i can use this Ambilight set for my non Ambilight SAMSUNG Q950T TV yes? The main problem with this set is you have to sacrifice one of my 4x HDMI Terminals (all 4 already taken) yes? If the answer in both cases is a yes then i must find a solution to get my extre one more HDMI port for this set + don't even think about the 6th HDMI Terminal for SONY PST 5 (6 HDMI in total)

The light doesn’t need an hdmi port, the hue sync box does, but the sync box has 4 ports on it, so you’d have more than before. Or just as much if you decide to plug everything into it

You can use it as a simple light without the sync box but I believe you will still need a bridge. There is no Bluetooth support
