The adhesive is divided NOT because it can be cut in pieces ( with the cut of the scissors itself that doesn't matter), but because it can be used later again on another surface, if you wanna change its position, and you will still have adhesive. It's actually really well thought and a plus!

Thanks for the detailed review and setup. One of my main questions was if you cut it, how does it still function when it’s not connected to the rest of the strip with the plug. But as you said, it can still work. But it does look like each cut strip is viewed as one strip in the app. So it’s not like you can change the color per cut strip or customize the automations per cut strip. Anyway, good to know

hello sir, Thank you very much for the review it helps me a lot with making up my decision for buying the Philips Hue Lightstrip but I wonder about 2 things : 1- why there is a cutting mark on the light? like what why I need to cut it ? and what would I do with the second part of the strip if I cut it ? would it work ? 2- do I need to but it with a Hub? I tried to look for what is the use of the hub and do I really need to have it in order to use the Hue lightstrip? your opinion matters, thank you
@aw1lt

1, you can cut it to change the length of the strip 2, the hub just stops the need to reconnect every time you open the app, allow you to change the lights when you are away from home and prevents bs when trying to connect to google home/alexa

Be mindful people. If you put Phillips hue bulbs in an enclosed light fixture like he has above on his ceiling it may reduced the life of the bulb or outright kill it shortly from condensed heat in the light fixture. They are not currently made for this. If there is any venting in the fixture to expel heat you should be fine but not like the enclosure used here. Very useful and informative video otherwise. Thanks for your efforts.

WHat i find very vague on their site is the part about cutting it and then reconnecting it. When i look at your close ups shots, it seems it would only with with those connectors. They make it sound like you can cut any where and later reconnect it. Another thing i find not so good, is that on Amazone i see a lot of unhappy owners which after buying suddenly come to find they cant connect with the odler version cause of mismatching connectors. Though i did read something about that on the website, amazone does not state anything about v4 or any other version. But perhaps thats more the fault of the buyer not doing proper research on the product

@FrozenMetroid

Hue bulbs are expensive and you'll find the bulbs you need (I presume GU10) will fit your recessed light fittings. You can buy an alternative smart bulb that supports ZigBee and it will be compatible with Hue. They do a white light bulb which does cost quite a lot less so look out for those. If you want colour then they are really expensive. They do a starter pack with a white bulb and dimmer but I've not seen one with a GU10 but you can buy them seperately.
