This video was really touching and relatable to me. I have Social Anxiety Disorder and depression to top it off. It's not a phobia, I know but, it's symptoms are very similar. I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety when I was nine years old by a psychiatrist. I couldn't talk to people, I couldn't look at people, I couldn't help but constantly think that I was doing wrong and that people were judging me. At ten, I had my first panic attack. It was at school and I was getting teased by a group of girls (I went to an Islamic school which was co-ed but female were still separated from males). I couldn't breathe and they didn't even bother helping me. They said I was being an 'attention seeker' and that I was 'overreacting'. I got over it.. Eventually. Throughout the years, my disorder started becoming worse and panic attacks started to become more of a daily thing (due to school). It slowly evolved into something much much more menacing. I'm turning 14 now and I still can't talk to people, I can't dye my hair because I'm scared of it will drag too much attention, I can't wear bright clothes, I can't wear anything that shows too much skin, I can't let my hair down, I can't look at people, I can't go to my friend's parties, I can't go on outings. This video really means a lot. Especially since it's coming from a Malaysian. And yes, I may be going off topic but I felt like I needed to address this. Phobias and mental disorders in general are so ignored here in Malaysia and that's a fact. I hope one day they become more acknowledged. Especially at school and work.

+Mari Novak I have the same case like you! But now, I'm improving a lot! You're still young so there's still a lot ahead of you! I don't know if this gives you motivation or not but there are adults out there who are still trying their best to talk to people and they are improving. SO! You can do it! Believe me that when I was young, I had big social anxiety in school. I was the new kid in kindergarten who just migrated all the way from Philippines to Malaysia. Suddenly, moving to a new country and a new school had an impact on my life. I couldn't understand what any of my classmates were saying. They were speaking Malay or chinese or Indian. They could only speak little bit of English. I had a hard time trying to communicate with them because I've always been shy. It started to turn to Social Anxiety when I got bullied because I was different and weak, by my Malay classmates(no offense. I'm not saying all Malays are bad. I DO have Malay friends). However, in my primary school days, I got myself a few friends and I got over it. Things changed again when I changed to another city in Malaysia and had to start my Form 1 there. It was THE MOST DEPRESSING DAYS OF MY LIFE. Everyone there knew each other because they were from nearby primary schools. I was so left out and had no one to talk to. So, it appeared again. SOCIAL ANXIETY. But it reduced after I changed to a higher class and thank god, made my first friend. You see, all you need to do is just wait for that person to come along and be your friend. OR for a better cause, you can talk to another person without them approaching you by believing in yourself and remind yourself that no one cares if you can't talk. They'll be surprised but grateful that you talk to them. I am aspiring to be a teacher and a movie star. That's why I force myself to talk and face what I hate doing the most. Even when my stomach hurts and my heart beats fast and my mind blank, I will still challenge myself to do what I couldn't do because I WANT TO ACHIEVE THAT DREAM OF MINE. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM?

I have a phobia, it's called Eisotrophobia (A-so-tro-phobia). It's basically a fear of one's reflection, in other words, my reflection. It's not myself that I'm scared of. Sometimes, when I stare at my own reflection, I don't see myself. I see another figure that would scare me. I started to avoid making eye contact at the mirror or any other translucent objects that could emit my reflection. :/ Some people would say I'm a freak about this, but I just accept the fact that I have this phobia.

Wow! Breathtaking! The person who plays Sam did it so well, great acting. I don't have phobia or anxiety, but I've dealt with some *ridiculous* fear and I really relate to that aspect of the story. And you wanna change and you know it's absolutely fine to change and your fear isn't as it seems, but you still can't... either a thought would sneak in to make you think the fear has indeed the right and reason to be there or just plain fear would overcome. I hate it! It's why I'm so thankful for my God, my secret place, my perfect love, my best friend, saying all the right words, hitting all the right buttons, my best help... ah! I would be mentally ill if it wasn't for Him, I know it.

As a Psych major studying in the States, I felt like this film could have done more research into the behaviors of people with more abnormal fears. People with anablephobia are usually depressed and I don't think Reuben portrayed Sam correctly on that part. And from the films I've seen in class, people with OCD, like Lana, would go crazy if someone spilled the sprinkles like that. Lana should have shown more emotion, yelled, shouted and screamed. I did like how the film tried to get the audience to react to an otherwise emotional short film, however, it just didn't feel real enough to me, so it was a letdown. Sorry guys.
@rio2cat
9 жыл бұрын
As someone with a severe case of OCD, I can attest that Lana in this video was a pretty good representative of how I'd react to a situation like that. People with OCD tend to have their own definition of dirtiness and messiness. e.g. I'm perfectly fine with not vacuuming my room for weeks and leaving my room messy but if I think I've touched something dirty under my own definition, then I can't help myself from washing hands right away.

Hahaha... I watched this video the moment you guys uploaded it, but I didn't think much of the title back then... Today, as I was looking over your uploads, I saw the title of this video and literally laughed... Philophobia... I learned the meaning of the word a few weeks ago from my friend in boarding school. It means, "fear or phobia of falling in love" which actually suites the video very well... I give you guys props for that... What made me laugh is that the word is actually used in our modern generation, a world where language is limited and underused (is that a word?)... For someone who has to go through lots of personal fears every day, this really reached out to me. I really do love this video and will try harder to face my fears even more.

When i watch good meaningful video, most of time left side of my eye drop tears, if both side means the video is too meaningful it hit my feeling like a train. Roll out~
