Thank you Chris for knowing the difference between begging the question and raising the question.

There is some wisdom from this man’s method of conversion. Too often people become Christian and swallow whole dogmatic systems whole without thinking them through and making them their own. Then they deconstruct because they think when that version of Christianity is proven false so is Christianity.

It's definitely something. Praying the faith deepens and grows. Jesus lives! ♥️ and is Yahweh God 🙏🏻 Christ ✝️ and King 👑

The people that say that apologetics doesn't bring people to Christ, at least instrumentally, are just ignorant. I was brought to Christ, instrumentally, by the Holly Spirit through primarily the works of C.S. Lewis, Greg Koukl, and William Lane Craig. I had been being slowly moved by Koukl and Craig toward Christianity, and when I read Mere Christianity the dam broke and I became a "Mere Christian". I didn't, for example, believe in the truth of most of the Bible stories, or anything like that. I just believe that God existed, His Son died for our sins, and He was raised from the dead. This was enough for me. I continued learning and, as I grew, I became more "evangelical". Now, I basically believe most of what thinkers like William Lane Craig believe, except I'm a Partial Preterist and Postmillennialist, and I am a bit more of a High-Church (but not totally) kind of Christian. All of that to say that, apologetics brought me to a fully-orbed, almost-entirely-orthodox, Christianity (I'm a neo-Apollinarian, a monothelite, and a believer in Incarnational Sonship, for examples of my non-orthodox beliefs).

Same here. "Mere Christianity" did the trick, especially the famous "trilemma". And I had already read the Bible before completely from front to back. So that might also have had something to do with it.

55:00 to be fair. The disciples did not understand. We do not fully understand and it took the church centuries to work out the language.

18:58 so a big part of this conversation is actually defining "how can you be saved" and "how can you & others know you're saved". These 2 questions ought to have the same answer. Reformed Christians will point to many signs that indicate personal salvation, but ultimately must answer 'nobody can know for certain'. Now that's the foundational issue, which has huge implications for apologetics, pastoral care, dealing with apostasy etc. "How can I be saved?" "By believing this list of doctrines, showing regret of your sins, deciding to live better, showing character growth, experiencing less desire to sin, experiencing more desire to know God, having some spiritual experience, never sinning for too long or too much, never apostatizing" - Lordship Salvationists "How can I be saved?" "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ" - Acts 16

An area that Philip didn't articulate that is related to sin, is how he incorporates the 'just' nature of God and ultimate justice

I do think one of the more interesting things about Goff's position is that it makes atheism even less tenable of an option by solving almost all of their objections with the concept of God simply not being maximally powerful. I genuinely never even considered that as an idea that could be put forth and wouldn't suggest it myself, though I think, perhaps, overall? In the grand scheme? It just may be preferable to overt atheism, for a variety of reasons.

I think God is all powerful but willingly limited his power and by doing that it created the possibility of suffering. Mabey like through free will, like the fall of Adam and Eve, mabey ????

Outside of Catholicism/EO I do not see any logical reason as to hold that the Bible, virgin birth, etc is necessary to be a Christian

It's the other way around. Catholics are the ones who claim their traditions are more important than the Bible.

@@tookie36 It really can feel that way sometimes, but one thing I think is crucial to focus on is how we treat others with respect. The Bible encourages this in several places. For example, in Galatians 5:22-23, it speaks about the fruit of the Spirit with qualities like love, kindness, and gentleness that should flow from our lives. 2 Timothy 2:24 reminds us that "the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone." I believe we can all live out these principles, showing the love of Christ through our actions. My goal isn't to convert you but to share that many of us strive to live with a focus on loving our neighbors and making this world a better place through kindness and respect.

@@tookie36 I think you have a really good example above from RedefineLiving. I hate to point them out and call negative attention to them but the way they engage pushes people further from the faith and creates more non-believers. Don't look to individuals like them as examples of those who walk in faith. Focus on people who show the fruit of the spirit in what they do. Don't look to those who bring about fits of rage and discord. I probably won't post again because I don't wish to engage with RedefineLiving. The bible states: *"Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him."* I wish to uphold this and only engage with those who are willing to engage by the fruit of the spirit.
