Just a minor suggestion for audio quality in future videos (3 years late xD) record some room noise, it helps remove the clear cuts in your dialogue audio. All in all, great video and analysis!

I kinda have to disagree with the society thing. It kinda depends on what you mean by society besides Ohma, and to a lesser extent Kuroki most characters have communities

Thanks! I might do a video on Baki at some point, but I'll have to reread it and make sure that I actually have something interesting to say about it first.

Yes, this is almost exactly what I’ve been thinking about in terms of the themes in Kengan Ashura. Good analysis. I’m glad that somebody else picked up on this reading of Ashura. Although regarding the ending of Ashura I personally see it in much more morose light. At the end of Ashura, I think of Žižeks “No meaning in catastrophes” point about Christian atheism and I can’t help but to see that the people close to Ohma fail him. They let this obviously depressed and self-destructive young man kill himself for what boils down to be a childish moral code of an ideology. The moral imperative of a truly responsible friend, boss or an equal would have been to force him to stop, in order to save his life. With the hindsight of Kengan Omega it sadly seems that Ashura was a lighting in a bottle situation and the themes were not premeditated. As in Omega all the seeming critiques of capitalist production of society and cynical portrayals of the characters and their relationships from Ashura have been sanded down and flanderized to the point of plot stagnation or even regression. Ever since chapter 50 it seems that the whole thing has become a jumbled and aimless mess without goals or stakes that matter, it almost reads like a less fun companion piece to chainsaw man part 2. And also, no. Kengan is not better than Baki. Baki is a legendary generational manga on par with the likes of Berserk. Baki over time grew into a metaphysical meditation on the nature and form of power, while Kengan in comparison is a scrappy and respectable fighting manga that now struggles to find meaning in its continued existence.
