would you know any application of this ? like is im not clear if it dimerized the carbonyl group also is it used in the medical field ?also, is it safe to say the only only difference b/w diel alder and 2+2 is that diels alder forma a 6 membered ring whereas 2+2 is form a 4 membered ring aso diels alder is thermodynamically done where as 2+2 photochemically done

Javeria Siddiqui Hi it has applications in bio conjugation you can react maleimide to sulfur atom in disulfide bridge and do 2+2 photocycloaddition to make the bridge stronger also can be used this approach for making hydrogel

Thing doesn’t make sense to me is that why one molecule absorbs light while the other not if they are the same? I assume the two absorb the light and get triplet state which means each molecule has two unpaired electron and then each two unpaired electrons from the two molecules form one sigma bond.

There is a finite probability of a photon hitting the orbital in question, it doesn't just instantly happen to all of them. Thus, there will always be a mixture of excited an unexcited molecules and they will reaction with each other.

I would tone it down a bit and speak a little softer and calmer. Being shouted at is not conducive to learning.
