Incredibly awesome Chris. I've never done a workshop but often wondered do you get much in the way of instruction or are they more tour guides?
@ChrisDarnell
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Philip! I haven't done a ton of them myself and I'm sure they vary depending on who is leading them, but in this case they were providing as much or as little instruction as you wanted out of them. They had a few prepared presentations for us in the evenings, and they were super attentive towards everyone individually in the field but if you wanted to wander off and do your own thing for a while that was totally cool as well. It was also just nice to be surrounded by like minds for a week and to gain inspiration from each other.

Thank you! It's been some time since this trip and the laws are continuously changing so I wouldn't use my experience as advice, but I am indeed an EASA certified pilot. As I understand it the insurance requirement came into effect after my time there so I don't have any experience in that regard unfortunately.

thank you for this video Chris. I am going to Lofoten Islands in Feb and this was really helpful for an amateur photographer like me. I was debating whether to take my 70-200 with me or not but after watching your video I decided that I would. Very good shooting tips in your video so thank you for that. I promise I will try the fried cod tongues too. Take care.

Thanks Hank! If you can afford the space and weight in your bags I think you'll be glad to have that 70-200. Of course I shot primarily with my 16-35 on most things but as you saw there were definitely lots of opportunities for a long lens as well. Best of luck on your trip and I wish you good light and conditions!

Thank you for this very informative video! Just curious, how did you take your DJI drone to Norway? I’m a photographer based out of California and I’m planning a trip for December 2023 and wanted to know what I have to do to bring my DJI mavic pro with me. Thank you.
@ChrisDarnell

Thanks for watching David! Most - if not all airlines forbid putting your batteries (or any LiPo battery) in your checked baggage, so just be sure to put those in your carry on. I went an extra step and covered the contacts with a strip of electrical tape since that seems to make the TSA agents happy, but I don't know if that is really necessary. I didn't have room left in my camera bag so I put the drone body itself without the battery in a protective case inside my checked bag, but be sure to remove your memory card and carry it with you if you do that. They lost my luggage on the way back and although it ultimately made it back to me all that footage would have been lost if it was never found and I'd left the card in the drone. I'd highly recommend backing up or changing cards at least daily in case something happens and you can't recover the drone (that happened to one of the people in our group) at least you'll have the footage and images up to that point which softens the sting a little bit. That's about it really, airport security everywhere seems pretty accustomed to drones and Norway doesn't appear to have any problems with them, so you should have no trouble bringing your Mavic Pro along. All the best, you'll have a great time!

@ChrisDarnell

Thanks so much! On this trip, shooting with the Canon 5Dmk4, I brought five batteries total, one in the camera and four spares. Typically I'd say I went through around two or three batteries a day, and I don't really remember them being overly affected by the cold. It stayed in the 20's and 30's (F) the whole time we were there, so I'm sure that would have been a different story if the temperatures had been colder. Hope that helps!
