Your videos are the best on the web, but I still spent 3 hours on this today! Granted, I made one for my Indian girlfriend. Her darker skin tone makes it extremely difficult. Every time I would apply the smart sharpening tool, it gave this checkered pattern. I got it to work eventually. I didn't use that tool. Instead, I adjusted the halftone filter by increasing the dot size.

Hi, great quick instructions, and get to the point quickly. One question, when I use the pencil tool to colour the skin, the skin colour mixes with the blue of the background fill and gives a different colour. Blend for the layer is set to multiply, but is there a setting in the pencil tool that needs amending?
@BLTV_Photoshop

Before you paint in areas of your subject, make sure the Blend Mode is set to "Normal".

@BLTV_Photoshop

Before exporting it as a jpeg, resize your PSD file to a larger width & height and/or resolution. The dot pattern will remain intact.

Hi Marty, perfect tutorial. I have a question: Would there be a way to make the dot pattern (halftones) configurable, make it smaller (pixel size), or with more or less separation, etc? It's for small resolution (320x200px) image, that dots seem too much big. Thank you very much.

Great tutorial! Im using Photoshop Elements 7 and I can't seem to get the filter to only effect the portrait. I've made sure that the background is completely white and I can't seem to get it to go away. It won't allow me to color the image under the filtered layers. First; Awesome tutorial. Second; When I go to filter gallery (after following every single step like you said), and I click on halftone pattern, suddenly the image inverts. This is, as you might think, not such big of a deal. But when you invert your image afterwards, the dots are white. And if you invert it before, the colors are all messed up, which is annoying, because you had to copy the image before with ctrl + J. Is this a know bug? If so, please help me.
@Vampirerush70

Hmmmm... I kind of fixed it by inverting again afterwards, and then upping the brightness. It's not the exact same, but it'll do.

@BLTV_Photoshop
4 жыл бұрын
Since this particular effect looks best by working in a relatively low size and resolution, you'll want to make its final image 300 ppi and increase its size for the printed version. To prevent it from blurring at the higher size and resolution, play with "Smart Blur" and then sharpen it with "Smart Sharpen".
