NOBODY walks with their knee straight, as you posit. have you ever tried that? Virtually everybody walks with their knee slightly bent and a gentle forward tilt from the ankles while landing on their heel and rolling across the midfoot to the toes. That combination absorbs the shock of both walking and running. You guys don't know what you're talking about. You might be the most famous physical therapists on the Internet but you're not the best-informed physical therapts on the Internet.

Hey, guys, after a serious TBI I struggle from rapid terminal knee extension in my affected leg thst some PTs have called hyperextension, but I'm not actually going beyond full extension, this soft knee method is the way I've found to really make walking more comfortable and effective for me, I'm glad to see you guys talking sbout it. I must be onto something.

Could please show a video/clip of someone actually walking in the way you are prescribing here. I find it difficult to conceptualize the actual walk, since heel first is so natural.
@robertbissett
Жыл бұрын
This is BS. You are right. Heel first is the natural, normal way to walk. No push off with the rear toes. Pelvis moves forward with the rear leg swinging forward. Minimal effort. Running is a different story.

I’ve been limping for 6 years Because I was put on a drug 3 different times for a UTI infection well It caused damage to my Achilles tendons I didn’t know that a bone spur was forming on my left ankle because of the damage and inflammation Both my ankles were so bad I hardly could walk to a room a few steps away , the pain was so bad and still is from my left foot now. I went to doctors that told me to use ice and they would heal Well My right ankle healed up almost back to normal My left didn’t I had a X-ray that shows a spur that’s stabbing my Achilles tendon Now the doctor wants me to have surgery I don’t want surgery Is there anything I can do to walk without pain?

Do you have anything to say about the "barefoot" shoes? Some ppl say it helps with avoiding heel striking. But are they a bad idea for other reasons? Or does it all just depend on so many factors like what you are doing and where you are walking and how long you take to get used to wearing them?
