"Salami Rocket!" I'm glad they are still in production. Incredible unique design. I'm sure it was a great marketing move to go with Ferrari. Would have been interesting to see if partnering with Lamborghini had made a difference.

I love that designer plane. I'd like to test how to pilot this plane. Should be very good...I'm very interested to know about performance's plane. I flown jets since 1992 and turboprop before, but this plane seems to be very special plane to fly...

It's crazy noisy and the props are susceptible to foreign object damage. You could never land on unimproved fields or even bituminous runways. A few years ago, I read an article about the downfall of the Beech 2000 Starship, which had a similar configuration. The 2000 had many shortcomings, but one large factor that lead to its impracticality was the damage to the props caused by the main gear kicking up gravel. Then again, people buy Bentleys. People will buy this.

It’s actually not loud in the cabin whatsoever. My family owns one out of Oregon. We can sit there and have a normal conversation and hear everything just fine. This airplane has its maintenance costs issues however is an amazing airplane. Previous plane was an aero commander. Much louder.

@@pdbbndorco2452 Last time I looked at Sunriver Airport on Google maps, your P180 was on the taxiway! Can you expand on what the maintenance cost issues have been for you? Also, how is the comfort in the passenger cabin? Does not look like the seats could recline much, but maybe they do. How is the air conditioning? Also wondering about typical cruise speeds and actual fuel usage. I love the design and specs of the Piaggio, but never have found much regarding these questions. Thanks from a fellow Oregonian for any reply.

I guess I saw one of the Piaggio Avanti this Monday (2015-Aug-10) over Latvia, don't know if it was Polish aircraft or some else. If first noticed it even before I saw it, because the sound was quite unusual, nothing like a jet or one of the passenger or cargo turboprops.

It IS the best aerodynamically design in the world! Even it’s fuselage is shaped like a giant “airfoil”!

correct and they claim something like 15% of the total lift from that shape, but the real kicker is the THREE lifting surfaces so L/D is fantastic, and requires less thrust to go faster. I designed something extremely similar in my second year of aero studies at USC, but thought it would not be acceptable. Little did I know that Learjet and Ohio St were working on this thing at the same time. My canard and wing root were a bit different, otherwise it was the same planform.

I saw one flying out of Broughton airport in Wales (Airbus wings factory) a couple of days ago, absolutely fascinating, I’d love to fly in one but at my age and my pension I’m afraid it’s a pleasure that will elude me.

I think it is a beautiful private airplane. Me able to get one which I can't "like many of the people bitching and complaining in-here", unless they give it to me for free, I would not have Props but 4 nice small turbines, two for use and 2 for emergencies. I also have to say to some of the people commenting here, that this is not a commercial airline plane. It is a private plane and you can customize it to meet your needs. I have seen images with different custom jobs and they look amazing.

It's pretty well etablished that pusher props are not more efficient. Tractor props bite clean air in front of the plane. Pusher props bite turbulent air behind the plane. Comparing planes to boats is stupid. Ships don't have propellers in front because they would be destroyed if it ran aground.

So to what do you attribute the P180’s ability to fly faster (402 kts) than any other production twin turboprop while still having very low fuel usage (98 gph), all with a roomy stand-up cabin? That seems like the definition of efficiency to me. I think you neglect to consider the downside of tractor props: they bite clean air, but then push some of it directly into the fuselage or wing, thus wasting some of the potential thrust and making it impossible to design the wings and fuselage for laminar airflow, which is a major reason for the Piaggio’s efficiency. The trade off is that the props create more noise, which is a great trade off for the flyer, but not for they person who built or bought a home next to the airport and thought there would not be noise. Oops.
