I went searching for a nice PID-control project and ran across a seesaw balance (link below) that interested me. This is my version where I've added real-time control/tuning of the proportional (P), integral (I) and derivative (D) parameters, and I explain a bit about what each of the three does in the system. If I were to iterate on this project, I'd make the rail longer, explore different distance sensors, and replace the manual control switches and potentiometers (which I like) with a more modern touch-screen GUI (which would give me practice with something new).
