Where I grew up, in the Appalachian finger hills, we didn't have mills, we had coal mines, and coke ovens. The remnants of the beehive ovens are still in the side of the hill, on brookside mount olive rd. We still have platforms of concrete, where the coal silo was located, old concrete bridges just out in the middle of the woods, no roads go to them anymore. Love any type of history, where times were hard, but much more simple. still live in that small town, and wouldn't change it! As always, love the videos.

History means a lot, the young generation today, they don't care, very few though do! These places you've shown, so sad to see. Some towns here in WV. are gone, never more to come back. This may be a good area to do some medal detecting, because of all the construction that went on there. The old mills from the 30's are nice to see. It's a very important part of the historical grain preparation for various kitchen staples that kept these people fed. Amazing the things they learned to do to survive. They were the real inventors of the day. Thanks for sharing, Donnie, your friend , Louise

Wonderful video so much history I remember my father telling me about when he was a boy in the 30s he took corn to the mill his uncle had where we live.i believe it was turned by horse power?? I also loved the video about the old churches.i remember my father telling me about when he was a boy a man would come around in his old pickup truck and take them to church he said it was full of people that he stood on the running board and held on to ride to church and some times they would walk through the woods to get to the church they had to cross an old foot log. Thanks for sharing this with us it brings back such wonderful memories of the people and the things and times I love.god bless you for all the time and work you do in making the video.i remember when I was growing up they had a lot of furniture and horsey mills were everyone worked back in the 40 and 50 and more my grandparents worked in the horsey mills my grandma did what she called dolfing with the old cones. Have a blessed night

My g grandfather had a grain mill on a creek. They eventually used the mill stones as their grave markers and people stole them. Now the land is posted and we can`t visit their old home site or graves. I`d love to take my Minelab Vanquish 340 to their old home sites in the woods. Years ago we could visit all the old home sites and settlements then people got deer leases on the land. I guess you can`t blame them. Outsiders would come in and vandalize deer stands and camps or we`d build a nice boxed in warm deer stand and on Saturday morning someone would be in it. If you confronted them they`d come back and destroy it. A poor man can`t hunt these woods anymore. But I remember our deer camp getting vandalized. Feces and trash all over the inside and damaged windows, missing boards or stolen wood stoves. I`m sure it`s far worse today so you can`t blame them for wanting to ban the general public.

I am in heirship on a bunch of land. My state of WV you as a landowner must grant access to them other people's cemeteries, You can gate it, you can post the land, even hire 24/7 security guards. But you must give them people upon a reasonable prior notice access to there Cemeteries lands in question. If I was you I would check into your state rules & regulations laws. I read your post kind tug my heart there little bit. Hope this very little bit helps you out. Oh yes appears this type of land owners missabuse has been greatly increased lately. My area people will notify the state or county in question & they will send state police or county deputies to register owners home or office & make them grant them family members access to cemeteries in question within a reasonable prior notice. Your local county courthouse maybe could help you. If not I don't see a local lawyer charge you much at all. If it happen go down to that route. Personally myself if access is granted. I would have that lawyer make them land owners reimburse your family members the legal fees cost. It was only last year a local land owner in my area keep not answering his phone & trying bullying them people like that, keep refusing them access & basically was just acting up. The Judge ordered him hauled off to jail let him set there until he decided change his little attitude problem a little bit. Gave him a little Attitude adjustment I guess you could call it that. It all really depends how your state laws are wrote up. But I never heard of any state laws yet that didn't allow people access to there own families cemeteries. Good Luck on this issue.

Mr. Laws I love your videos about your local history. I live clear across the country from you in Nevada. I spend a great deal of time hiking and driving around the desert looking at old mines and ghost towns. There’s nothing better than being able to research your find and learn a little about what life was like there. In the dry arid climate here things last a long time. I’ve even found foot paths created in the 1870s leading from a one house to another or from house to mill. Keep up the good work my friend I’ll alway be watching your videos. There is an Old Mill damn by my grandma's Wylie's house off 25e right across from the flea market. If you take old 25e I think is what it used to be called that's right across the flea market right on down and turn right on the road down at the bottom of the hill and head back there's an Old Mill Dam back there. My mom, ants and uncles, all my cousins and myself have all swam there. It would be great if you could dig up the history there.

Donnie sir people like us that remember this old stuff and seeing most of it were the last of a dying breed sir. People younger than me don’t have a clue bout what was in these places back in the day. It’s sad but it is what it is no changing it neither. I wish it was different but it’s not. Great video sir I’m glad to shared this one to. Be safe and GOD BLESS y’all sir Amen 🙏
