Rediscovering Duluth (Piedmont)
Music: Gulch
Four years ago, some friends and I drove up to Duluth to ride Spirit. It had been about 6 months since I had gotten into mountain biking and I was stoked to try a downhill trail for the first time. It was raining when we got there and the lifts were closed, so we decided to ride Piedmont instead. I had to walk more than 90% of the trail. At the time most of the trail seemed practically impossible to me. The little wooden plank between two boulders on "kissing booth" haunted my memories for years. I hadnt gone back to Piedmont since then, apart from a short visit we did last year where we couldnt find the trails and ended up doing just BOB and Stove Top a few times.
Fast forward four years and Ive had much more experience on the bike. Ive ridden out west quite a bit, and an opportunity ride Piedmont presents itself again. It was amazing. On par with any out-west trail Ive hit. May not have the same views but the tech and features are at the same level. This time around, I was able to ride 80% of the trail but some of the climbs and rolls were still too much for me. I had just done a 75 mile road ride the day before, but no excuses :) I now look forward to riding Piedmont and Brewer regularly. It makes no sense not to when you have a world class trail system that'll destroy you, right here! If you havent checked it out yet, get out there and walk it if you need to. If you havent been there in a while, go check out the new jumpline, and if you've been shredding it this whole time, I wish I had been too!
Негізгі бет Piedmont gives riding out West a run for its money!
