Roberto Bertero at the Great Organ Dominique Oberthür of Saint-Étienne Cathedral, Auxerre (F).
In this video I am playing the flamboyant Gigue improvised by the famous French organist Pierre Cochereau. In fact this Gigue is taken from a “Suite of Dances” that he created extemporaneously with the collaboration of percussionists!
This piece is now playable thanks to the precious reconstruction work accomplished by the English organist David Briggs, who put on paper the recording of that time, made by François Carbou.
Pierre Cochereau has been a pupil of Marcel Dupré and Maurice Duruflé. After 13 years as organist at Saint-Roch, Paris, he became titular organist of the famous organ of Notre-Dame, a position he held for 29 years, until his death.
An unique artist, to say the least, especially concerning the art of improvisation, who has been also very active in relaunching the image of the organ to the general public, particularly in France.
I did not record this video at the Consolata Sanctuary, but at the Dominique Oberthür organ, located in the Cathedral of Auxerre (France) on the occasion of a concert of mine in that wonderful venue.
Here is the tech equipment I’ve used in order to capture this live recording:
DAT recorder Aiwa HD-s1
Microphones Sennheiser K3U + ME80
