Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, the husband of Princess Margriet, is traditionally on 5 May in Wageningen, the city of freedom, where the fallen were remembered, a flag ceremony was held and a parade was held. Finally, Pieter also got into one of the jeeps and drove along the route past the audience. Many of the liberators in the second world came from Canada, the country where the Dutch royal family resided and where princess Margriet was born, in Ottawa, although it was temporarily declared Dutch territory at her birth.
