Lenses specially designed for sulcus placement / piggyback tend to do very well over the long term with low incidence of pressure problems, inflammation etc. If those issues do arise, they can be easily explanted but this is rarely necessary. Not all lenses are safe for sulcus placement however - e.g. the single piece acrylic lenses with sharp edges and thick haptics. Best to go for something designed for the purpose like Sulcoflex or AddOn, or a 3 piece lens with slimmer, smooth haptics (to reduce the risk of iris chafage and UGH syndrome).
