After casting that third or fourth buff on himself in the bathroom, I started to imagine Mordecai just sitting on the toilet and furiously trying to become a Super Saiyan before joining the fight. Anyone on the fence about following this show should know that it gets much better over the next few weeks, as everyone settles into their roles and the presentation continually improves.

the first bits feel so D&D rather than shadowrun. Do they get better at understanding pink mohawk/black trenchcoat and the general setting? Hearing a standard fantasy dwarf is just disappointing. Dwarfs are part keep-your-head-down minority, part mid to high skill tradesmen, and, to orcs, carpetbaggers using corporate lawyers and legal fiction to rob the underground from the metahumans that made it.

Just stumbled upon your video, and I have to say it's amazing :) I'm a Shadowrun GM since 1989 and you have an incredible stage set ! Would love to play in such a scenery :) Keep things this way. I saw you made some side videos to explain things, but I keep thinking it's a bit hard for a beginner or a complete newbie in rpgs to follow what the setting is all about, what player characters have to do in the Shadowrun Universe, and such. This world is so complex... I have not watched each video yet but it's a very good surprise so far! Will gladly follow your adventures, thumbs up to the team. You all love to play, it's obvious :)

+firnantok Okay, I get it now :) That was a good idea indeed, is there a way to get my hands on that interview anywhere? did not manage to find it on myself :/ If it's not available anymore, I find this could me interesting for newbies to have some updates and rules explanations as they probably come upon those videos during further episodes. As a GM, I noticed there was a substancial amount of rules modifications, as a video show needs it to make things smoother and slicker. I'm very curious to watch the interview, just to know the motivations and goals of everyone. Anyway, wellcome to the shadows, it's a looong trip you've begun :D

4th and 5th lack much of the world setting that is present in the 1st 2nd and 3rd edition rulebooks, it's unsurprising that it feels half realised and hollow. I'm giving this a chance but they have a lot to live up to vs Mirrorshades and to convince me the new rulesets are worth even a second of thought/contemplation. We will see, but 20 min in and so far not good. I will watch the series and see if that changes.

49:35 when you do something that changes your initiative you don't reroll your whole initiative, you only roll the extra dice. I have a feeling she also forgot to take into account the flat bonus. Edit: 59:35: one of the main reasons to do melee is the ties/glancing blows are still a hit. I'm not aware of any disadvantage that changes that, he should have connected with that bunch. 1:15:20 : Isn't she still in VR? she shouldn't have a defense roll. Further in 5e deckers are fairly discrete because they only need a tablet sized object, not the honking big keyboard of the earlier eras. Edit: Ah, you caught the dodge, but it should still have been at least an action to even find her given there were multiple patrons here and deckers aren't that obvious

I only just stumbled on this earlier today so forgive me if my comments are late and already addressed in later sessions, but a couple of things that I spotted with your use of the Control Actions spell: Both casting a spell and issuing a command with Control Actions are separate complex actions by RAW, so you can't cast it and then command your victim the same initiative pass. You have to wait for the next IP for the command itself to take effect (or indeed be issued at all). Secondly, when forcing someone you're controlling this way to take an action you always use your own skills and not that of your victim, so Cromwell shouldn't have attacked Elsie using his own skill in unarmed.

Seems to me the fight at the Tavern was a poor choice to start this. Seems like a great way to start a D&D game for sure, combat is core, heroism is expected. But in a Cyberpunk universe where people have selfish motivations for the most part, it just seems the players are fighting because they really don't want to screw up the game for the DM. The combat had no purpose, no reason, the people in the bar didn't know each other, or who to attack, or why. And they were stuck for 1:30 hours into this combat... when the most reasonable course of action would be people running out, wanting nothing to do with the troubles of those who walked in, especially the apparently corporate woman. Maybe coming back to the scene after to see what happened or investigate, get some spoils. Overall I felt it was a very clumsy start. It seems to me combat in Shadowrun should be more rare, more lethal, and with a certain purpose. This starting combat was everything but that. I hope this improves over time.

I'm new to tabletop RPGs, but I am very familiar with Shadowrun in terms of the novels and videogames. I also come from watching Crit Role and Star Trek tabletop with some old Rooster Teeth buddies (care of the Weirdlings channel, fyi) and i thought perhaps I'd missed something. All of a sudden, guns were out and the shooting began. I always thought that the bars and clubs in Shadowrun were supposed to be Havens. "neutral ground" like the Continental in the John Wick movies. (though, runners are always gonna do their own thing.) but, especially in rpgs, a tavern is where you meet, and get work, and have a drink and some soy noodles. I was really looking forward to getting to know the characters a bit before a battle. But, again, i am a tabletop novice. if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. (...and I'm still gonna watch the rest of the campaign.)

Ok, now to the real thing: I just heard something that made me go WTF! +Hawk eye Hi Hawk Eye! Yes, Ma1nfram3 exploited the smartlinked gun to brick it. The technique is actually given as an example in the 5e core book. Not even a house rule - actual legit gameplay. That said, "bricking" the gun only renders its digital components useless for guns that have smartlink add-ons. They can use it as a regular gun in some circumstances AFAIK, but at reduced accuracy and it would for sure slow them down/ ruin the shot they're aiming. And many folks can't sustain that reduced accuracy and instead get mad, like in this example where the gun became a projectile. In 5e almost everything digital is wireless - and if it's wireless, it's on the Matrix somewhere. Risk and reward!

It doesn't matter much, "faux pas" isn't used in french, it's another attempt to stylish(ly) use expressions we never use.

I'm thirty minutes or so into the game and they're already rolling whole cubes of dice. Oh god. That's Shadowrun huh?

yep. you usually roll an number of 6 sided die equal to attribute+skill+misc (example: pistol+agility) and if you roll a 5 or 6 you get a success or "hit". the number of hits you get is limited by a "limit" (example: the accuracy rating of a pistol). once saw a guy who rolled 32 dice to shoot a gun.

Yeah, I had a milder experience playing Ars Magica where I rolled a lot of d10. I never did Shadowrun though, because as soon as the lingo came out our brains around the table entered a Blue Screen mode.

kereminde the system is based off the old world of darkness system although world of darkness is a pretty bare bones system. the lingo isnt too hard to pick up on after awhile. what helped me was playing the shadowrun return games. really lets you get a feel for the setting chummer.

Cody Crooks Oh I understand somewhat, the West End Star Wars game was also another "get a couple cubes of dice" game. Notably, the most interesting form of dice has been Ironclaw, which was a fun couple games at a convention but I *know* I will never get a game group going :)

Cool that they stand up for their games. I do that sometimes as gm. I never played Shadowrun is this the 4e or 5e version? I plan to start a campaign that's why I am curious as to which edition if i learn this one.

i'd love to get into this but as a 17 year old male none of my friend are into table top rpg's let alone anything that takes this long to sit down and play :(

Being a 17 year old male doesn't automatically prevent having friends into table top rpgs. Two years ago, when I was 17, I had a group of 8 friends that played table top games together weekly.

i am very glad that the shadowrun 5 rulebook was up to date at the time, 6 really sucks. It was always the ungraden rulebooks that were superior. The 1st edition the classic, but the 3rd edition was the best, edition 5 is ok and complex and was also very good. SR 6 is crap. I put my hopes in the number 7 ^^
