I bought both pens, I bought the packs on Amazon a few years back I wasn’t a huge fan of the pilot varsity at all ended up giving them all away. Still use multiple preppy pens daily. I have to admit when I first bought both I was still newer to fountain pens and was using whatever paper they’d write decent on, and a lot of copy paper at work. I think I’m going to get the varsity again now that I’m more knowledgeable about the hobby in general especially the paper. I tend to like the fines nibs I can find as I’ve always gotten the finest point pens long before fountain pens I write super small. Thanks for the review and reintroducing me to the varsity.

I wonder if you were using a Fine (02 or 03 vs the 05) for the Preppy, vs the Varsity only comes in Medium. In that situation, especially on everyday copy paper, the finer nib would be a better experience. I think the Varsity is worth trying again, but just knowing that it only comes in Medium. But since it's a Japanese Medium it may still work for you. Thanks! And if you end up giving them away, that's not a bad way to go. I think they are great pens to introduce people to the hobby. :)

Would you tell to be which one thinnest between Pilot Custom 74 F and lamy2000Ef?

Good question. I don't have either of those pens, but I would think the line width would be close. I recommend this video from Doodlebud where he compares the line width of 47 different pens. Hopefully that will help. Thanks! kzitem.info/news/bejne/zpeKnKWEg4Wniag
