Bugger. I’m a huge fan of the Battlefield in Box from way back as it means that I’m not adding terrain to the painting pile of shame. Now maybe I need to do something with my rural roads and cobblestones too. Nicely done Stuart.

Superb job on the roads. They look really effective and the resin puddles are a great idea. The whole effect is great. Thanks for sharing. Now I really must crack on with my lead mountain 😊.

The battlefield in a box stuff is great. I have a few pieces myself. The only problem I find is there isnt enough of it, haha! Everything is awaiting restock!! Loved some of your idea's in this video and your table at the end looks amazing. I really aspire to something like that for my bolt action or my newly invested FOW

Yeah it’s a bit of a pain to get hold of. I’ve just added the Eastern Railway Bundle to my collection so I can make use of the railway/road intersection I have 😅 And thank you, the collection is coming together nicely for Normandy, need a few more bits for Belgium/Holland/Germany style set ups, then it will do for a while.

Great ideas here, I think especially for the cobblestone roads which look far too much like Noddy in Toyland straight out the box. I couldn't afford the rural roads myself but made my own from cork and scraped out ruts, then painted it up to a similar style to how BF did theirs (brown base and drybrush of beige over it. But what really made it blend into the table was flocking the edges/having a couple of tufts. That same technique of some flock and tufts on the edges also made my BF rivers/streams look so much better.

I’ve been considering adding some flock to mine, but also want them to work with multiple mats, might have a play around.

Wow and great. So simple and it has such a big impact. I have scads of FoW roads, building etc. Maybe you could do a video of “weatherizing” an FoW building!!
@MiniatureRealms
Жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊. I’ve been considering doing the same for some of their buildings, not sure they fit with my ‘Normandy’ collection though. I might wait until I tackle North Africa, I’m more likely to grab some of theirs for that.

@@MiniatureRealms Mic at Empire At Wars building are certainly better value but FoW BB152 through 160 are North European and could fit in well with your table. Tons on them in circulation having been available for 10 years or more. Might have a large audience interested in how to “Pimp” them.

Yeah all my current ones are Empires at War. I don’t dislike the FOW range, just not sure how they will fit alongside the ones I have, and therefore leading me to buy more 😅. I agree though, it would be a good video, it was something I had in mind before doing the roads, so I may grab one.

Super stuff mate, I really think those rural roads look amazing. It's amazing that very little work needs to be done on them to make them 10x better. I look forward to trying this technique on my battlefield in a box stuff.

Cheers mate. I’ve been doing it with my pre-painted mdf stuff, so thought it would be a good solution for the FOW stuff as well.

Looks amazing Stu. Given me my mojo to get back on with my 15mm Normandy board as been sidetracked with my 28mm LOTR board recently. Will hopefully post an update to my Normandy project in a week or so but very impressed with your board and painting is fantastic as always. Also bought the city ruins box and the new Stalingrad box released recently but that’s a wee bit away yet as projects coming out my ears 🤣.

Looking at my pile of Flames of War tanks and having looked at how much rattle cans would cost I'm thinking of getting an airbrush. Was wondering if a spray booth is essential or is a good mask a better investment?
@MiniatureRealms
Жыл бұрын
I don’t use one myself, but I have a large(ish) room away from others, by a window, and a large desk. I also use an A3 sized hobby tray with sides and a back that are about 12” high, when I airbrush, so this helps prevent overspray onto things I don’t want to get hit (a cardboard box can do the same job). Once you’ve got used to airbrushing, you don’t actually make too much mess, though priming and base coating large areas can cause more mess/overspray. So all in all, you don’t need one, but your own situation/set up at home will likely have an effect on this. I also still have one on my shopping list, just keeps getting bumped down by other things.

Can I ask why you used water not airbrush thinner with the contrast paint ?
@MiniatureRealms
Жыл бұрын
I’ve found that contrast pain thins very well with water, that I didn’t need medium, this works the same in the airbrush. So basically because it works, and free compared to thinner.

Oh I’d say so, I will be. The roads are 3 inches wide (or thereabouts), the track marks might be a little close together, but no major issues.
