I take a rectangle of fabric and pin tuck. I particularly like pin tucks sewn a scant 1/8" and usually approximately 1/2" space in-between sometimes 3/8" depending on what I am making. I have several blouses that have been done this way. My latest was done on an emerald green silk. Once I have the pin tucks sewn in then I place my pattern over the rectangle. Have used pin tucks on the front of blouses, dresses and have also used them on inserts. These smaller tucks are wonderful for little girls dresses.

Your sewing videos are very informative and well done. I love your attention to detail, finishing techniques and neatness. I love pintucks in my ready to wear shirts as I have thickness around my middle and pintucks help camouflage that while still looking somewhat fitted. Your video has given me the inspiration to tackle this technique. Thank you.

Thankyou for this lesson. I had wondered how to achieve this effect. My friend said that you can do the pin tucks first, then lay your bodice on top. I couldn’t see how this would work. I prefer your method.

Karina you are an inspiration. I fell in love with pin tucks watching the Sew Custom video for the Chambray shirt. She uses a zig zag stitch on the pin tucks which gives another nice finish. She does not provide the pattern so not being as experienced as I would like I was at a loss how to copy but your video is so helpful as I can use the love notions patterns instead! After your previous video showing pin tucks I was also inspired to add them to a blouse. I made one over the weekend and added pin tucks to the shoulder seam coming down to above the bust. Then I took a puff sleeve pattern and changed the gathers to pin tucks going down vertically on the three quarter sleeve and releasing at the elbow hight. I just love my new blouse and are thinking of what else I can add pin tucks to! 🙂

This is so timely. I am wearing a blouse with pin tucks (rtw) from the shoulders to below the bust, very much like your first example. I was examining it and thinking about how to try to add that detail when I sew. Thanks for the instruction and for encouraging limitless sewing!

If I can replace shoulder gathers with pin tucks, then I can add pin tucks to any blouse with a bust dart, by slashing the dart and rotating the dart fullness up to the shoulder... Oh I like the way your videos make me think Karina. I may never sew another top without pin tucks somewhere!

Wow Karina, such a lovely video on Mother's Day. Everything turned out beautifully, as usual... So much work and effort to make these beautiful tops. Since the fabric used was a busy print, maybe some piping between the yoke section on the Presto tunic and the main garment would've helped to show of those beautiful pin tucks as well, especially if made in a contrasting color...
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
3 жыл бұрын
I’m not too much of a fan of piping unless is a very small detail and far away from my bust. I try to not have very striking details near my bust. I don’t mind them being in a print. In person they are very much noticeable and it’s hard to show that on video :)

I have a lot to say on this vlog. 🤭😬Do you always use a ¼" on pin tucks or does it depend on how many you are doing etc? Regarding the fabric...so your pin tucks will show more would a border print fabric work? So you get the best of both world a print as well as plain-ish at the top? And lastly, I think it is GREAT that you use your ¼" foot so much with garment sewing seeing as it is a quilting sewing foot...but is shows that you can get the most out of your machine! Well Done!

A border print would be amazing but I don’t have any right now. It doesn’t have to be 1/4”, it can be 1/8” too but 1/4” is faster.
