He is so generous with his information and the physical realities of playing a string instrument. Wonderful teaching.

Even the most famous violinists can't really explain how they create their great violin sound. That's funny...

It is a matter of building muscle instinct through discovery. A matter of advice can take you only so far, for you must see and feel for yourself to obtain it.

One of the greatest - that silvery texture and vibrato coloured are intoxicating. However, perhaps for young inexperienced players, please do not confuse and equate 'its gotta hurt' with tightening and squeezing of muscles. For string players we often differentiate between tension and intensity. Young muscles need to be patient (often years) to develop the control and conditioning that produces 'intensity' whilst avoiding 'tension'.

Yep. It "don1t gotta hurt". Ever! If it hurts (physicallyI) you are doing something wrong. Period. Prominent personalities like this often get away with silly expressions because they are famous or what have you. And he sounds great, so he must be right, right? (another word he uses a lot). Wrong! But, yes, he does sound great, and most of what he says here is correct. This is, of course, from a while ago.

@@duongothuy8649 He claims that in order for the vibrato to be intense, but with a relaxed hand, the biceps need to be somewhat tense. He doesn't use the word "vibrato" though.

Use the fourth finger on the A string for your e. Keep it all on the same string so that you have it voiced. Also, spicatto is always beginning on the string. To get a more even stroke, reverse the bowing. You have to spend as much time on the upstroke as you do on the down and most people shorten the length of the up bow. Making it impossible to do the staccato

Who is the pupil? And I missed the point of the last 30 seconds. Is he tightening his bicep, or letting it all relax as well as the hand?
