They have such beautiful flowers. Your going to get a good harvest 🙌🏾 Mine are now flowering too, ands I can’t wait for the fruit here in London Uk 🇬🇧

I sure hope so. Last year they had just about the same number of flowers, but no fruit ending up developing.

I agree, such an underrated plant. The flowers are incredibly tropical looking and the petals are sweet too! Your plants look stunning! So many flowers! I bought a few varieties last year, I only got one flower last year on my "Unique" which is a self-fertile variety, but the fruit didn't quite make it to maturity before the hard frosts we got in December. This year so far I have a few flowers on 2 of my other varieties, so hoping to cross-pollinate them and hope I get a few fruits to try🤞

Unfortunately I've never gotten fruit to develop for some reason, even though they have been blooming for a few years now.

@@texastropics they need to be cross-pollinated with another variety. It’s recommended to hand pollinate them with a paintbrush to have the best chance of getting fruit set.

@@PeterEntwistle Yes, mine are all genetically different. I have done the paint brush on them before with no luck, but I'll keep trying. I do it with my Paw Paws as well.

Wow. Soo glad to catch this vid. I've got 5 feijoa seedlings I got from eating feijoa fruits purchased from Central Market. A longer more oblong shipped fruit. Tastey so I planted seeds. I'm in zone 8a, so not planting in ground yet. Peace N Love

@@texastropics oh yeah they germinated very well. They're all 1 year old, but in pots because we get crazy cold snaps here. Next year I may pot up bigger and leave outside longer. Maybe I'll do an update video soon for them. Peace N Love

@@gardenoftwitty they seem to be pretty tough, but remember plants in pots are less cold hardy so take a little extra care with them.

I also like the Chilean Guava for a hardy fruiting guava, although it is more of a smaller shrub. The cultivars Flambeau and Butterball look especially good, although Ka Pow seems to produce a greater fruit quantity. It is native to a cool summer climate similar to the PNW or the Western European coast, so easily fruits there, even in part or light shade. There are some close relatives too, like the Mexican Mountain Guava that are also hardy.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I do have three of the chilean guavas and the fruit are pretty tasty as long as the birds don't find them. I have my Chilean guava in part shade, otherwise they'll burn in the sun here.

Hi... When you lived in the Portland area, did you buy your Feijoa sellowiana from One Green World? They sell several diffrent varieties of this same species. I am not sure which variety to buy. Do you remember which variety you bought? And where did you buy it? I grew up in San Pedro Calif (where the Port of LA is located). Sunset Zone 24. My dad grew many tropical Guava trees. I have no idea what the genus or species was. Not at all cold hardy. I loved eating the guavas right off the tree when I was a kid...

Yes I did buy these from One Green World, they were 10 minutes from my house. I originally bought 4. Three of their "Seedlings" and a Coolidge as that is all they had at the time. The Coolidge died the first year in summer, but the other three survived. 2 were far more vigorous than the one on the right. Tropical Guava was probably Psidium.

I had one at my former home in CA, I miss having one dearly. We'd eat blossom petals and the fruit. If you root cuttings or start seeds I'd be very interested in purchasing one. Alternatively, if you know a local OR source I'd also be interested.

One Green World in Portland always has them. They do mail order as well.

No, I think that's just too cold. Even zone 7 is really pushing it.
