I wonder if you could use a larger spacer, like the ones used to convert an HG to a single speed, and then just use the lower cogs of a mtb cassette. E.g. use the 5 28-51t cogs (which come as a single unit I believe), and put a wide single speed spacer block underneath. Sure, you'd only have a 9x5 drivetrain, but you would actually increase the low gear range, which would presumably be more desirable for a fat bike

The outboard cog may not clear the chainstay.
@raedpanda
4 сағат бұрын
@@oldanslo ye I thought about that too. Tho on a fat bike, the stays often run almost parallel to the wheel before they curve up into the seat tube. Even if they did not, you could still do it. Using 4 cogs on a 11 speed hub will leave plenty of room to play with. So one could think of adding multiple spacers below and above, to clear both tire and stays. Definitely will take a lot of experimentation, but it could work

Ok, excellent “stupid” experiment for a “silly” bike (meant in all kindness). But you’ve got to do episode 2 where you either get a much smaller chainring or find a MTB cassette where you can leave off a couple of small sprockets and space behind to make up. Gotta get the range shifted lower then it would be an all season all terrain assault bike.

Why not remove the first three or four small cogs in the tin speed cassette and put them behind the cassette so you’ve got a more practical Top Gear and more in between gears? Hi, have the cassette going the top 11t cog cause you have to use it to put the end cap on and then remove the next four or five cogs from the cassette and placement behind the cassette to space the cat sit across and adjust your limit. Screw to stop these being able to be used. Hope you can understand what I mean .

For experimentation sake, it'd be interesting to cobble something electronic together that would automatically shift both the derailleur and the gearbox all from one lever. I know di2 has a similar capability (shifting cleanly up ratios using both front and rear derailleurs in concert) but I wonder if there's a known way to do it with Pinion.

This is a funny video with a lot of words but without any sense - you don't have to try it out, the result is already determined after a few seconds in the transmission ratio calculator and that the chain grazes the tire is predictable. It would have been exciting to see how short you can gear the bike, how steeply you can then ride up the hill before the rider almost stands on the spot with a cadence of 70 and falls over.
