I have seen Pink Floyd live 5 times in my life. Three times with the original line up. The first time in 1975. I have seen literally hundreds of concerts with some of the greatest bands in rock history and I can honestly say that Floyd shows are without exception the best shows I have ever seen. They are worth easily 100 times the admission price. David Gilmour is a god. R.I.P. Rick Wright.

I can't imagine how cool it would have been to have seen the Jesus looking Gilmour play. It's a travesty he's not been knighted yet.
@RCullis47

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV Agree 1000% I enjoy a shredder as much as the next guy but Gilmour has a quality that can't be taught or practiced and that is heart, soul, and emotion. Either you have it or you don't and he has them all in spades. That being said, Gilmour's technique is nothing to sneeze at. Everything about it from the way he strikes notes, to his bends, vibrato and note selection is impeccable. His use of the whammy bar is so unique, especially when he combines it with string bends and manual vibrato. Very unique. You just have to hear a couple of notes and you know it's him. I feel very fortunate to have seen the original line up back in the day and carry that as a treasured memory. The first time I saw them was April of '75 at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. It was a few months before Wish You Were Here was released. They opened the show with "One Of These Days from their Meddle album. After the song, they asked if we could indulge them as they tried out material from their upcoming album. Quite proper and very British. I loved their cordiality as they asked permission. Of course! Yes, we would love to hear it! They then played the entire Wish You Were Here album in sequence. Mind blown. They took an intermission and returned to play the entire Dark Side Of The Moon album in sequence. Mind obliterated. They returned for an encore with "Echoes" also from the Meddle album. A 45 minute version that totally killed. At the time, it was just the four of them, two female back up singers that would appear when required as well as a guest sax player. It sounded just like the albums. They had a giant quadrophonic sound system that shot sounds all around us like the lunatic running through the halls of the hospital, Gilmour's guitar during Echoes sounded like pterodactyls were circling the Coliseum. The jet crashing on the stage, flashpans, flares, giant circular projection screen, massive fog, flames, etc. In 1975, most of this was new. It blew me away. Here's the crazy part. I had 8th row floor seats and they cost me $7.50 (US). Times have changed. I'm glad that you are digging Floyd. When people who are new to Floyd ask me what genre are they? I just tell them Pink Floyd is a genre unto themselves. There is no band like Floyd just the occasional imitator IMHO. :) BTW, I agree with you one the Knighting. I think he might have been warded the MBE but a knighthood is definitely very much in order.

@RCullis47

@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV Once again, totally agree. Not to say that Syd doesn't have his place in music history. He did form the first version of Floyd and who knows if the other four would have gotten together and turned Floyd into what they became but Syd's version to me went between quaint little pop dittys to totally experimental musical sojourns that went over many people's heads unless they were tripping in a club to the full lighting extravaganza. As a lyricist, Syd was not extremely deep and as a songwriter, His pop tunes were clever but... The experimental part of the spectrum, I think helped plant the seed of being fearless. As you know towards the end of Syd's term where his brain was fried and Gilmour was on board for nights if Syd was too out of it and just stared at the audience, he could save the show until finally, they just didn't pick Syd up any more for gigs because he was just gone and Gilmour officially replaced him. They experimented quite a bit to varying degrees of commercial success as they searched for their post Syd voice. By Meddle, they finally clicked on a direction that gave them great commercial success while keeping their integrity. Gilmour's talent on the guitar, even in the earliest of days, as you rightly pointed out, exceeded Syd's abilities and sensibilities IMHO. Waters' lyrics are among the finest ever put to paper (I'm also a big fan of Fish, Marillion's original vocalist's lyrics). Those two together along with the extremely underrated contributions by the late Rick Wright and even Nick Mason, created the Pink Floyd that will forever be remembered by their absolute musical craftsmanship. I'm an old fart that will be turning 60 in August and I find it fulfilling and interesting to talk music with someone from your generation. You are an old soul with musical wisdom that belies your years. I think if we came up at the same time, I would have hung out with you as we compared notes whenever new vinyl was released. Cheers!

I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap frogged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION… I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well.

I was at this gig, Earls Court '94. The original show got cancelled just as the intros were starting leading up to the opening of the show due to a seat collapse. I an not aware that there were more than a few minor injuries, thankfully The lights came on and an American voice came on saying ' no need for alarm, please keep your seats'. I said to my mate, Don and the other two I was with 'I'm going to the bar in the thoroughfare to order us a couple of pints each cos this gig is cancelled'. They all thought I was mad cos the guy had said stay put. I go to the nearest bar, the place is empty, loads of bar staff all standing around doing nothing. I order 8 pints of lager and sit down at the nearest table to where I expect the crowd to come tumbling out from where I left myself. Two minutes later, another announcement, gig cancelled, come back with your stub in a week's time. The place is suddenly is a stampede with people scrambling to get a beer, staff suddenly in chaos. My mates come down and see me sat at the table, 8 pints of lager and 3 more seats. Yes, mad. Anyway, we came back a week later, it's odd recognising faces of people you thought you'd only ever see once in your life, The gig was epic, sensational, Gilmore is a master. I'll never forget it. Plus I was more than a little caned on Thai stick, too! Those days are long behind me, but Floyd are with me forever.

I first saw PF live in 1976, even then they were known as the best show in any town. Their concerts especially to a British audience are more like a pilgrimage and then religious/spiritual experience then a traditional concert. The audience hardly move, almost as though they are hypointised by both the music and spectacle. At the end you feel emotionally drained, almost unable to speak to the people you went to the concert with, as words don't seem an appropriate reaction to what you have just put yourself through. Many Floyd fans have all of their albums, but like myself are careful about how many times they actually listen to them, as they can have a depressing effect if you do so to an addictive degree. However IMO truth is truth and we should never fear from confronting our own and the worlds dark side. For you can not know good, and its power, if you don't know evil, and the power of it. While emotion can swing both ways, the choice is ours, as it has always been. Walters plugs into the emotional realm using words, while Wright and Gilmore do so using music, the combination can often be overwhelming to the unsuspecting soul. Indeed if going to a PF concert does not touch your soul in ways that you have never experienced before, then you likely don't have one.

You're articulate, well presented, and you can hold an audience's attention, and you're in the process of finding Pink Floyd, all good so far... Spurs!! Really...

This is the best review for this song/performance EVER with the most profound remarks to be found between 18:10 and 18:16 which are as folows: 'Cos, what do you say ...........' 'That was incred.........' 'How much of that was ...........' 'I don't even know ............' Nothing more needed to be said. Your facial expressions told us how much you were in awe of this song/performance! 😊

You need to do Shine on You Crazy Diamond from the same concert. I love watching the reactions from young people seeing PF live performances and truly understand how great they are!!

this is the most epic version of the song because - alongside the great solo - the show itself is a sensation. BUT: please watch the same song "david gilmour live in pompeij 2016". the show is not that spectacular, but you´ll witness the solo from a man who becomes better every decade like good old red wine.

Made me feel young again. The joy on your face and then being almost brought to tears. You know it's real when the Music wraps around you and forces emotion out of you. It was exactly as I felt when I first saw Pink Floyd in concert. Try echoes on for size.

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing them in Vancouver on this tour. I’ve never been the same since. There are no words. About the only word I could say for hours was “Wow.”

You wondered if the music was written out. In an interview, David said he consent read or write music. He says he gets A riff, or melody in his head and plays it and improvises until done. Lyrics usually come later. He is amazing.

It wasn’t all entirely written, the band changed the songs with each show it was written but it was written on the fly during rehearsals & the plan was given to the stage crew to make the stage show work, I saw them twice in 3 days & both shows were completely different but absolutely stunning, 7 of us walked back to the train & the only comment was “that was the loudest, best sounding concert I’ve ever seen”... other than that, we were speechless much like you Btw, thank god the finale was an amazing version of run like hell or we’d all of left a bunch of zombies & not have returned to the real world 😎

I worked on that tour in Europe! The biggest tour i even worked on ! 50 trucks 400 crew members to build the stage ! 1994. We needed 3 days to build the stage.

I'm showing my age here, but I saw this performed by Floyd at Earls Court in '80, '81 & '94, the former two being part of the The Wall concerts. Whilst the Pulse tour performance has a longer guitar solo, the sight of Gilmour alone on stage playing on top of the wall with a single vast search-light behind him was such a powerful image that it remains burnt into the memory.

That was how every concert ended on the Division Bell tour from which Pulse is the live recording. You should have seen the larger venue shows on that tour. Phenominal is an understatement.

hey my friend this is the first time watching your show. To see the reaction on your face is priceless that and the fact you truly exorb the music. When they came to United States and played in Dallas Texas we went to the first show and then we scalp tickets the next two nights also the guitar solo is the same it was absolutely amazing breathtaking spiritual and Awakening. David Gilmour just makes that guitar talk. And you're right it was a moment of History. When my friends and I heard they were going to played Earl Court but we also heard about the accident that happened before and that that concert was going to be rescheduled and then we found out when it was rescheduled we bought tickets flew saw the concert and came back home in a 24-hour. It was one of the most amazing nights at Earls Court. The whole pulse album in concert was absolutely amazing. I have a request my friend and that is Play Nightwish ghost love score live version 2013. This band is similar in a different type of way this more leads to vocals but the band itself and the arrangements are amazing. I enjoyed your show very much Keep On Keepin On

There is no shame in not knowing what to say after witnessing what you just did. For me the most profound statement on Pink Floyd is an anecdote left by a commenter on another PF reaction video. When he asked his five year old daughter why she would leave the room whenever he would play their music, she replied "because the music goes inside me". At that age she wouldn't understand the lyrics, nor the history and references throughout their music. but she didn't need to because the music touched her soul, not her intellect. After 50 years of exploring the music world I have reached the conclusion that there is a lot of bad music and a lot of good. Some is exceptional, some is epic and legendary and some even genius. And soaring light years and many galaxies above all of it is Pink Floyd. R.I.P. Richard Wright.

I was there twice once sat at the back and once stewarding, it was amazing. Just to let you know, no one was moving as everyone was sat down, and they played about 7 days at Earls Court, so that would have happened everynight. This show was recorded and shown by BBC which is why camera coverage is so good. Loved your reaaction, try Wish you were Here, Another Brick in the Wall, and Shine On you Crazy Diamond from same show.

David Gilmour does not simply play the guitar. He tells a story with it.
