"The basic idea of the album (The Wall) is that if you isolate yourself you decay." "Hey You is a cry to the rest of the world, you know saying hey, this isn't right." The lyrics seem to be a passionate plea for real human contact between people, for the courage necessary to reach out to someone through their defensive walls and make a connection with them.

Few things are more touching than hearing someone scream out in desperation for human connection, but realize even as he screams that it's hopeless. Nobody hears him.

The flawless performance on the fretless bass is key in this one. Also I can promise you, when this came out, people were trying to figure this out on their standard-tuned guitars in total frustration and only a handful of people knew this was written/recorded in Nashville tuning😁

The Wall, was my H.S. senior year theme album... but it's deep. The Wall... is the 'emotional and psychological wall we build due to the pressures of life'.... and when he refers to the 'worms ate into his brain'... the words were symbolic of 'nightmares'.....

Okay you’re kind enough to put your reaction out here for all and with that some times comes a response you might not like. This song is a sad emotionaly disturbing song about depression. So with you smiling and giggling during this song gives the impression of you being insincere and acting throughout. Just my impression I know you are a super happy friendly reactor but sheesh woman.
