Rane Twelve guy here.... Three things that make me interested in these - 1. Internal mode is once again available which is an upgrade to me over the twelves. If you've ever had girls lean over your turntables to request a track you understand why this is important lol. I also like to use my tables as a spot to set things like my wedding information during important dances. It's really nice to just turn them off. 2. The adjustable magnet is HUGE! Seems like every gig my tables change how they feel based on the humidity of the room. Sometimes I have to put some paper under the spindle in order to make them feel right. It would be so nice to turn a knob. 3. I hate that the twelves stop playing at the end of a song. Sounds like a small thing but I like to use it as a silent cue so I'll jump to the end and use a cue point to drop in. Three things that make me not want to get them - 1. I wish the tone arm was detachable. I'm not going to use it 99% of the time and it's something that can break when on the road. It also can get in the way of the screen and the pitch slider. 2. Extra connections to hook up. With Rane Twelves you only have a USB to connect to the mixer and now you have RCAs as well. Not a massive deal but it is nice to only have to connect a USB. 3. The price. I don't see this as enough of an upgrade for me to make the jump. $2800 is a lot to spend to do what I am already doing. These will be great in clubs though since everyone will be able to use them no matter what kind of DJ you are.

Nick, great review man. One thing that would be good to redo is to test the needle skip using real vinyl. When you’re using DVS with the needles, Serato automatically prevents skipping, so your beat juggling test should have used real vinyl. If the needle skips, Serato knows and it just keeps playing at the same point, so it sounds like it has not skipped. The only exception is if you’re really going crazy and the needle starts bouncing, if there is no signal at all the audio drops out.

Very similar to a Rane 12 but with a tone arm. I think pioneer will remove the tone arm in later models. I used technics all my life but switched to CDJs 10 years ago, i wasn’t sold on the Rane 12s but I’m interested to see the future of these.

Is it cool? Absolutely, but it’s not a good deal no matter how you break it down. You can get two reloop rp 8000 mkii’s and phase for $1k less ($800-900 less if you get record stabilizers too) and you will get 90% of the functionality with the remaining 10% mostly being the niche stuff that only the most skilled turntablists will use.

@bradleybramer122100% correct…and I’m not one to buy something just because its “new and shiny”…lol. I used a Rane Rotary Empath with an SL3 box and Technic 1210 M5Gs from 2006 until 2018 then finally bought an S9 and a Rane Seventy. I still use my 1200 M5G’s and sometimes Rane12’s. And yes….you can’t kill 1200’s….bought my 1st pair in 1994….then a 2nd pair in 1998…finally my M5Gs in 2008…all work flawless.

it's totally expensive. Especially for those of us that bought 1200s back in the day for $300 each lol. Damn inflation. But either way when it's two relopp 7000s at $1100 or two of the at $2600 it's a massive uptick in spending. I don't even want reloop 8000s i don't need the buttons. I'll have em on my mixer. but add in $1300 for mixer and you're getting to $2400 and $4100 respectively which is a big outlay. Me i can't justify that spend at this point in my life. I just have other responsibilities and this is just gonna be in a spare room.

For the record (pun not intended lol) i have and use serato also but like u said prefer traktor due to what were used to, but at the end of the day beatmatching and blending and cutting is the same basic skills nonmatter what the equipment and software but personal workflow and prederence belongs to the performer! Well, I'm watching your video regurally. But I haven't seen that so far. Since November 2023 I have those turntables and the mixer, too. But I'm disappointed, for that price in DVS the record player doesn't run smooth, it changes from -0,1 BPM to +0,2 BPM which is a huge thing when you want to beat match songs. Also at 0 % tempo adjustment on the turntable there's no haptical feedback like as the Technics have. Also, the middle spin which I used for fine adjustments isn't available anymore. To be fair: It is also not available on Phase Essential. So for me, I'm thinking of selling this setup and switch over to reloop turntables and mixer: Their turntables have a wheel to adjust the platter stop speed, larger pad buttons and a feedback at 0 % tempo adjustment. And the best thing: You can get the turntables, the mixer and the Phase Essentials for the half of the price. Personally, I just wanted to have a mixer with a strong output signal and 8 colored pad buttons on it. However, I choosed this setup to be Pioneer Rekordbox comaptible, but I haven't used it since the purchase, I'm still at Serato.
