*TWO* pair of HPM 200s connected to the SX 1250??? Wow! Can't even imagine! I have ONE pair of HPM 150s connected to my Pioneer SX 1010(plus Magnepan MMGs in the rear)and THAT produces an amazing sound.

You shouldn't use four speakers with one amplifier you'll overload it, also doing a multi stereo mode is generally shit Just use one stereo pair for stereo

Really, really enjoyed this video & your knowledge/presentation. And yes-even though many abuse the word *rare*- Pioneer HPM 200 Speakers ARE indeed...rare! Even back in the day when they were manufactured, I do not remember seeing them advertised nor did I see them in audio stores. I'm guessing-also-they were expensive. I have never heard a pair, but I'd really like to. I currently have a pair of Pioneer HPM 150s that I purchased from the original owner around 15 years ago. They were(& remain)*mint*, with all components & the super tweeters in proper working order. Surprisingly...original foam surrounds are still solid, intact & not...deteriorating.. They are hooked up to a Pioneer SX1010 & a Pioneer QX949A Receiver combo. As much as I like those receivers, they are actually *underpowered* as far as using them with the 150s. I have been looking at several Pioneer.receivers, like the SX1250 & the SX1280, but prices on nice units have gone through the roof. May just get the Spec combo if I fibd a decent price. Again, thank you for this informative video. BTW...do you still have your HPM200s?

How much is it worth for a pair of working conditions? Fair condition-wise. I mean.

I think, easily, $2000+...Especially with the increasing price of the HPM-100.

So I have an opportunity to look at a pair. Seller Claiming to be in excellent condition, but claims one driver needs refoaming. I have an sx1980 and a set of hpm 100s and the sound is terrific. What can I expect when these are connected to the 1980? What might be a good US dollar price??

The biggest problem with these is the super tweeter not working. They are made of a type of Mylar and the connection between the film and where the speaker wire attaches corrodes and fails. It's also very hard to tell if they are actually working as they are crossed over quite high. Luckly, the crossovers are very accessible and you can really just unplug the main tweeter (the bigger one) to determine if the top one is working. They are hard to repair and near impossible to find used. I've been told you can repair the connection with a liquid defroster pen made to repair rear defrost on car windows. How do they sound? Awesome. If you like the HPM-100, you'll love these. I'd think they'd pair great with that receiver as that is what they were advertised to be used with!

LOL, no - I have a pair of Yamaha NS-1000's...They are are great match for my Yamaha A-S1000. Remember, I am addicted to Vintage Audio ;) If I did not eventually part with these glorious pieces I'd have to rent another house to store them all - lol. Thanks for the comments!
