For a low end turntable from 1977, when I got my PL-115D, try working 60 hour weeks at $2.25 / hr at Disney World and save $130.20 over two years just to buy that “low end” TT - over $400 in today’s dollars.

Thanks for making this video. I was struggling with my PL 115D's playyer being all lopsided, the twisty things with the springs did the trick. They have about 7 or 8 clicks before they are fully tightened. The new body you made looks awesome! To borrow a word from fellow KZitemr AvE, its "skookum". A hell of an upgrade from that 70's particle board and vinyl stickem. You probablly improved the rumble and resonanse a lot! Here's a sub for helping me out and having good taste in wood.

These were standard run of the mill average joe turntables when they were new but I think it’s worth mentioning that in modern times to get a turntable with the same features and build quality of these mid 70s PL115D turntables will set you back quite a bit of cash Funny how what use to be standard is now considered premium

Coincidently Tony I was given three turntables last week and the PL 115D was one of them. I'm planning on doing a custom job on it too.

Great job IMO. The sub chassis adjustment is the crucial bit 4 sound. I think the plinth looks great.

I was waiting almost for 7 minutes to see if the turntable had sound through the receiver and speakers. Video edition please.

Tony Tony Tony, you went looking for an amplifier to test the turntable when you had a perfectly usable signal tracer right in front of you lol, sure it doesn't have equalization but it should have had enough gain. You have been working more with turntables lately, maybe it might be a good idea to install a equalization circuit into the signal tracer so that you have the option to test turntables... We definitely don't see the good old trusty signal tracer being used as much anymore but I always find it fascinating at how good they are at what they were specifically designed to do... Signal tracers are essentially out of the question in Australia! Especially the American eico or Heathkit so I'm planning on building one from scratch, I'm going to try and design it to be able to do as many things as possible so that it can see plenty of use, I might even include the equalization circuit for testing turntables, I definitely want to be able to either directly probe and non contact RF as well, I also need it as a mono cube which is used in the recording industry as a tool to get the audio levels set correctly in a mix. Behringer made one but it's not cheap, you essentially play back you mix through the full range amplified mono speaker and anything that is too loud should stick out or anything that's to soft will disappear, it's a trick that's used by the best recording studios, when you realize what they are actually used for, you will notice that every good studio that you have a look at will have a small 5 1/4 speaker sitting on the mixing console and yet not many people know what they are! I saw one KZitem video where some guy at home had two of them and two monitors as well LoL.. He clearly had no idea what the mono cube was for, he probably saw them in a larger studio and thought that he's going to do better and get two of them LoL.. Yeah it doesn't work like that. It's just one of those little things that even though a lot of people work with audio, they don't know about this little trick that makes setting levels so much easier...

the up down knob seems to make no difference in my 115d. Any ideas on how to go about fixing it? I've opened it up and it seems the tone arm holder that it's connected to stays pretty stiff. Also the tone arm has a lot of force pulling it out, it will not stay anywhere but the outer edge. hmm

I just bought this same model at a thrift store all it needed was. New belt motor was fine when I tested it out at home I couldn't remove the plate to see underneath it. When did removed it the whole.spindle center piece came right off and I can't get the plate to spin freely with no drag? It's resisting the easy flow of spinning freely? How can I resolve this?

There’s a ball-bearing that the spindle sits on, which may have fallen out. See here, from 2:15: kzitem.info/news/bejne/wqCIz61sqoiioZw Hope that helps.

You'd be surprised how many of the Pl range have speed issues.I have a Pl12d and a Pl112d and both suffer with either a touch too fast or slow.iv'e changec the belts for new ones ,oiled and cleaned them but has made absolutely no difference. Many people experience speed instability with these decks.Just google it and you'll see what i mean
